I love the interaction between Weiss and Faunus Ruby. Also, its refreshing to see Jaune being the optimist while Ruby is the pessimist

very good chapter I liked.
He had an idea of how Jaune and Ruby could get closer, at the same time that Ruby could move forward in contact with another person, that Jaune will one day see her very tired and offer her a massage, something simple on the shoulders or feet. It's just an idea.

In all seriousness, I love your writing. You do a fantastic job of bringing the reader into Ruby’s head.

I am curious though, does Weiss share the opinion of team JNPR? I may be misreading it, but it seems that, at the very least, she’s more moderate than her father would likely be in this timeline given that she seems to care what Ruby thinks.

On the whole, I truly enjoy and appreciate the quality of the writing. I've seen many stories that have received far more attention while being far worse, no offense to those other authors. On the whole, I think that the reason for this discrepancy is most likely the fact that the idea of slavery in the RWBY world very quickly turns people off from reading it, especially without the context of a harsher AU world surrounding it.

All that said, I'll touch on a few things; As others have said, the initial transition to trusting Jaune was a bit quick and abrupt. It's somewhat jarring given her experiences and given how mentally messed up she is, though it's no big deal. That, I believe, is meant to be explained as an extremely quick onset of Stockholm Syndrome by virtue of the horrible treatment she endured before as well as the much more kind treatment of Jaune. While that may be the case, I'm afraid that during the moments it didn't carry through to the reader as well as it maybe should have, and after the fact, we haven't really yet touched on the Stockholm stuff, so I think people get stuck on that some.

Aside from that, I do enjoy the characterization quite a bit, and the fact that you've managed to do what I wouldn't have expected; You made me wary of Jaune's character while reading through Ruby's eyes. As she felt the distrust and uncertainty towards him, so to did I.

Lastly, this is mostly a personal matter. Over the past few chapters, with the focus on forging Crescent Rose and then heading into various fight scenes, it felt a bit heavy on the action for me- Not saying this is a bad thing, just a personal preference.

All in all, I truly am looking forward to the next chapter and hoping it comes along soon, more so than with most stories I follow. This concept is unique and very well executed, to the point I'm sincerely eager to continue following Ruby's story. Thank you for the story so far, Tharkun.

I'm super curious what happened with Pyrrha, Ren and Nora don't seem to hold it against her so it's likely not her fault. But at the same time they dont' hold it against Jaune so something must have gone on, I'm assuming it has to do with the Maiden powers?

I think this chapter actually worked really well despite how “talky” it was. Ren is the perfect character for a philosophical discussion and exposition dump because you can write in a way that’s a little less connected to the world when writing from his perspective, making both work a lot better in larger doses than they would from someone like, say, Nora.

We never got to see Ruby BEFORE she became a badass. She’s always been the cutest little girl who absolutely will lay you out without effort. Seeing her beginning the training like this... it’s really cool.

Jaune knows full well what he’s doing isn’t Necessarily a favor to Ruby. He’ll make her stronger, but also change her in ways she might not like. Pyrrha unlocked his aura in the main timeline, made him a defender of humanity. But first he had to struggle non stop against the crushing weight of Cardin and his own insecurities, and then lose his partner and love. Jaune always acts ok, but he’s also broken inside too.

I wonder if he saved Weiss in this timeline? I hope so. As creepy as Jaune’s pursuit of her was, the two are still somehow good friends. I can’t imagine him letting her - or Ruby - die.

Though, honestly Jaune, Ruby’s always got PLENTY of trauma! Your job as her mentor and brother is to nurture the love still in her heart while getting her ready to fight.

(I actually kinda like Lancaster, but Jaune will ALWAYS be Ruby’s brother. The way he helped her up on the first day at Beacon, the way she reassured him when he was struggling under Cardin, just everything about the two is like the sweetest best friend sibling relationship ever. I swear Jaune is family to Ruby. I just can’t decide if he’s her little brother or big brother...let’s say, little brother, same age)

Ruby says the same reasons she has in canon, but in reality, she just wants to be with Jaune. Maybe her views will grow and change, and she’s gonna want Tai, Summer, and especially Yang back when she realizes it’s within possibility. But I hope she stays close to Jaune. The two are safe together.

Wait... does she even know Tai?!... would he recognize her as his daughter?! Was Summer just bred with him?! Was Yang given to Summer to raise after raven escaped?! AND QROW! He LOVES his nieces more than his own life! HOLY SHIT WHATS HAPPENED TO EVERYONE?!

Like, I’m horribly destroyed by the idea of sweet RUBY being a slave, in any of this... really really messed up world.

The end of chapter 3’s note was very good and needed. I thought this would be a childish fic where romance or friendship blooms due to restraint and kindness of a master. Heartwarming, but in a perverted way.

I’d never have guessed Blake to be Jaune’s old slave. One: because I always had a hard time seeing her as a slave in the first place, and Two, it’s clear how much she hates him.

The first thought is that Blake oughta be grateful to him for all he’s done for her... but this is quality writing, and people aren’t so one dimensional.

Blake has every right to be angry with Jaune. For he was still her master, and that kind of relationship is inherently unhealthy. Still, she also knows Jaune is a good person and doing the best he can. So... it’s complicated.

I literally thought she was there to assassinate him at first.

Ruby’s in a relatively good, safe place right now. With someone who will protect her, treat her right.

But then again... what about her mother? What about Yang?... Fucking hell what a truly messed up world...

But...

This was once OUR world. These used to be the hideous evils we inflicted on each other.

And through the bravery and constant work of all kinds of people... it changed.

I don’t think violent revolution will work here. Cathartic as it is... violence breeds instability. And scared people tend to flock to a demagogue that promises to restore things.

Then again, we fought the civil war exactly for the freedom of slaves, whatever other issues were involved. Violence WAS nessecary.

But how much, and what to do after... those are damn hard questions to answer.

But to see the girls we know and love like this... it’s intolerable. I must see this story through.

I wonder... Weiss is a shoe-in for a master who believes in the system but proves that not all humans are bad... plus her status in canon as Ruby’s closest friend...

This is a wonderful fic but the one thing that upsets me is how quick ruby went from obedient slave to carefree slave. I have friends who have suffered abuse and they are still suffering to this day. It just doesn’t sit right with me.
