Reviews for The Light in the King's Shadow
Bennyweirlover17 chapter 8 . 7/18
I love this ending it’s fantastic well done
MBAV fan66 chapter 8 . 7/18
Yay! It all worked out in the end! King Ethan realized how miserable he is without Benjamin there by his side anymore and that it was just too much to bare being away from him. Not to mention, once he found out the man that he loves was gravely ill, he couldn't just sit idly by and let him die! So, instead of letting Benjamin succumb to his illness, King Ethan sent over medicine and whatever else the Weir's might need so that Benjamin may recover from it. He done finally found someone who makes him happy again, and King Ethan isn't about to let him go, either. And Benjamin missed him too and they talked it out and made up again! I'm so happy for them! :D And I think Princess Jane is, too! Even though she may not always show it in front of Benjamin how grateful she is for helping her brother find his way back to being a good man, again. *giggle* ;P

In a way, the king also helped Benny find his way back to happiness again, too. Cause now Benjamin has a new and more fit place to live, the boyfriend of his dreams (finally), and a way to work towards to his dream job/goal! Which becoming a doctor! :D Assuming, the physician he's studying under actually gets the sticks out of his ass and actually teaches him anything useful, that is! Lol! XD But I'm sure in time the physician dude will lighten up and be more involved in Benjamin's education as his new student begins to grow on him more. ;) In a way, Benjamin's already treated his first patient, though. The king! :D Lol! By providing him with his daily dose of Benjamin, to make the day even more better for him and to help chase the darkness away that resides within his heart. So, that he may see the light, again. In other words, Benjamin was the King Ethan's antidepressant! :D Lol! ;P

Now, I feel all happy! Lol! ;P Anyway, great ending to a wonderful and very sweet story, my friend! :) I can't wait to see which of your other 12 story ideas in the wait, you'll do next! :D
MBAV fan66 chapter 7 . 7/6
*breaks down in tears* OH, NO! THEY BROKE UP! WHY?! I KNOW YOU GUYS CAN WORK IT OUT SOMEHOW, CAN'T YOU?! WAAAAHHHH! DX Lol! :P Things were going so great, too. Laughing. Joking around. Sweet and tender touches here and there. All so happy and romantic like. :) Until one little item was accidently revealed in Benjamin's room, and now it's all gone to shit in an instant from there. :( Lol! :P

I'm with Benjamin on this one, though. I hope that King Ethan doesn't revert back to his old and cruel ways again after the breakup. I know they probably need a hug, but I think I need one, too, after that. :P

I didn't even realize just how close to the end we were, already! Only 1 or 2 more chapters left?! Oh, my frilly frito pie! :o Lol! ;P Btw, not sure if you noticed it or not, but...so far all the chapter titles have been only two words long. *giggle* ;P Not that it matter to me or anything. Just thought I'd point that fun little fact out, is all. :)

MBAV fan66 chapter 6 . 6/10
Oo! A little house visit to Benjamin's place from the King, eh? ;D Lol! Totes adorbs! XD *heart emoji* Poor Benjamin was a nervous wreck about having King Ethan come visit his home for the first time ever and meeting his grandma. But to King Ethan, it's not what the house looks like that matter to him, instead it's the kind of people who live inside it, that matter most to him. But everything turned out just find. Sorta. Except for maybe near the end of his visit, though. After he ate the lovely food that Benjamin's grandma had made for him, that is. But how was he to know that his kind compliment about the yummy soup he ate would put a damper on Benjamin's grandma and Benjamin's mood, though. But now he knows what went wrong during that part of his visit to the Weir household. But only half of it, though. And like he thought, he's not going to like the answer to the question of how exactly poor Benjamin's parents died. ;P

But hey! The day wasn't a total loss, after all! King Ethan did managed to turn the gloomy mood around just a bit to a more slighter happier one, though, with Benjamin! By making plans to visit his grandmother again but this time by bring some lovely flowers for her as a gift! And making plans for tomorrow to go horseback riding with Benjamin, again! :D

I bet Benjamin's never been more embarrassed in his life until Ethan's visit. With his grandma telling the King all about some of his most embarrassing moments and traits about himself! Lol! But she's a loving and doting grandmother who loves her grandson. So, of course, she loves telling embarrassing stories about her grandson! If not getting a bit of payback for all the dumb and idiotic things he's done in the past that have caused her nothing but grief and worry in the end. Lol! She actually a very kind woman. Even though she's still bitter towards the King a little for what he's done, she's still willing to put her anger aside and give him a second chance at redemption in her eyes, though. Since she knows that he's now trying to change from the cruel person he once was to a more better person. She believes in second chances and is willing to give the King his.

There's was some fluff and serious stuff in this chapter! :D This time it was more on a homey kinda front. King Ethan finally meeting Benjamin's family and seeing where he comes from that's made him the man he is today. And in the next chapter we'll get even more homey times at Benjamin's place with the King, again! I can't wait! :D

MBAV fan66 chapter 5 . 5/20
Lovely night indeed! For some kissing! :D *starts majorly fangirling now because they kissed and almost had a make-out session in King Ethan's chambers/room* XD Lol! ;P

Things are looking up for the kingdom. Thanks to Benjamin! :D Even "your king/my king" sounds a bit formal, too. But it's probably safe than sorry to call him that, though, rather than just by his name, Ethan. Lol! I'm sure there's already rumors spreading throughout the castle and possibly the kingdom, as well, about those two. ;) And calling the King by his name only, would only confirm those rumors even more and spread like wildfire among the people. That the King has finally found someone new to love and it's with a commoner/servant that happens to be a guy, too. *giggle* ;P

In a way, Benjamin kinda did assassinate the king. The OLD, cold and unhappy king, that is! *giggle* He assassinated the darkness and loneliness that held King Ethan's heart prisoner! :D And right now, these two are assassinating my little heart with all their Bethan feels and sweet kiss to one another and everything else that makes these two the perfect couple in any story. :)

Even if this chapter was just more a filler chapter, it was still good. It only sent me further into the Bethan feels that I'm getting while reading this story.
MBAV fan66 chapter 4 . 5/6
On a roll indeed! Updating two stories within a single week! Not to mention, that long one-shot you did about a week or two ago, too! Someone's sure has the writing bug, huh?! Lol!

Anyway, we got to see more bonding between the two in this one. And King Ethan opening up more to Benny, as well. It's like Benny is his therapist or own personal counselor, helping him sort through his issues and stuff. Benny's starting to realize that perhaps royals and even nobles might have their own troubles and stress to deal with that are completely different than those who are commoners or poor. Like being watched like a hawk by others who have high expectations of you because you're some who's really important and high up in society. Always, having to be the one to make tough decisions about things and everyone judging you on them on. It like nobles and royals have their own preset rules to live by constantly. Which can be tiring and depressing over time. Like they themselves have no real freedom in their lives. Even if it does seem like they do.

Benny's starting to see that even though they come from different backgrounds and lifestyles, King Ethan and him aren't really all that much different after all. Benny is the one who King Ethan's been waiting for to come into his life and turn things around for him (after the terrible tragedy that led to him losing most of his family, that is) so that someday he maybe happy again and can be a great ruler that the kingdom deserves.

By the way, I didn't just like it. I LOVED IT! :D Lol! My favorite part was the horseback riding part. That's probably the closest that those two have been physically towards each other, so far, I think. Benny hugging King Ethan closely from behind, so he wouldn't fall off once the horse picked up speed into a ran. And the little smile of enjoyment it gave the King, as well. Eek! I'm getting Bethan vibes and feels from all over just picturing it! *starts swooning, while daydreaming about it*

Bennyweirlover17 chapter 3 . 11/21/2019
this is wonderful so good
MBAV fan66 chapter 3 . 11/21/2019
In a way, Benjamin is still assassinating the Ethan. Just with...kindness and understand with a bit of firmness added in, instead! Lol! Benjamin is slowly assassinating the Ethan's cold and harden heart, so that he may hopefully become a better man and king. Lol! But along the way, he's also changed himself a bit, too! At least, his views and thoughts towards King Ethan, that is. Now, he doesn't hate him as much but rather instead he now feels sorry for the poor guy. Sometimes you just gotta take the time to really get to know somebody first in order to realize why they're the way they are.

That part of the eerie hallway is like a memorial or shrine to Ethan's deceased wife and son. Though, a rather sad one, that few people wish to see as it brings nothing but heartache and pain to all those who see it. Reminding them of that tragic moment the day their lives were lost. I wonder who's room that used to be near the painting and the table with the vases on it? It has to either of been Sarah's or their son's room. I'm sure someday Benjamin will find the answer to that question later on in the story, I'm sure. ;)

Bennyweirlover17 chapter 2 . 4/4/2019
so good i love it
MBAV fan66 chapter 2 . 4/4/2019
Go, Benjamin! Woo-hoo! Good for you for having the balls to stand up to the king when nobody else would! At least, when he thought King Ethan's actions were unfair and morally dangerous to others who don't really deserve it. Like, that servant basically having to be his practice dummy for archery. Sure the thing was thick enough to protect him from the arrows, but the guy was still put in a very dangerous situation. Whether it be one of the King's arrows somehow managing to miss it's mark and wind up hitting him directly somewhere (like in the head) or him taking too many steps backwards and accidently falling into the river and probably getting swept away by the current.

At least, King Ethan is willing to admit to himself that he's been a terrible person to others lately and is willing to at least 'try' and change. If not a just a little. And he asked Benjamin to help him! :) By allowing Benjamin to be the only one (besides Jane's) to put him in his place when he thinks he's doing something wrong and unfair, even. Benjamin's gonna help him become a better again! :D

So, that's what happened to Ethan's family. Jesse killed them all (except for Jane) out of jealousy and spite because he had married Sarah and had a son with her, too. When he thought instead that she should've been with him, instead. I guess, all that anger and hatred just sat there inside him and festered for so long, that eventually Jesse couldn't take it anymore and concocted the plan to make Ethan feel the same way he does. Alone and bitter. By killing everyone he holds dear and near to him. Meaning, his family. Not only did losing his family at the hands of Jesse shattered and broke him, but it also left him empty inside, too. And also it had broken his sense of trust in not only other people, but in the world and in himself, as well. Well, now he has Benjamin there to bring the trust and light back into his life, again! I'm sure it won't be easy for Benjamin, but I'm sure he'll succeed in bring back the old Ethan, again! ;D
