Reviews for Five Times They Didn't Say I Love You …
LilyWafiq chapter 6 . 6/10/2019
Um yes hello I love this

Seriously, I never really considered Terry and Bernice as a couple before, but I think this is a new head cannon now, their relationship on screen was always delightful and this just adds a new dimension.

Basically if you were to write more about these two I would not be opposed.

Ok so like I know I've said it before but my favorite thing about this is that I can just HEAR the characters saying these lines. The dialogue is snappy and small and so THEM. There's no wasted sentimentality, no frilly language; it's just them, funny, tired, a little sad, and very much in love with each other, with the last person either of them would ever have expected. But you have built their story so well, and by now it's clear there is no one else, for either of them. They're a pair, now, and gosh but they go together well. I love this happy ending for them so much.

Ok but Terry telling her how proud he is of her? This is the best moment for them to just go for it, giddy and elated and maybe a little punch drunk, coming off a victory that means so much to them, having come so close to losing everything. Loved the nod to Nick and Jen. Loved sassy Bernice and Rhys's reaction to her telling him she's not coming home. Get it auntie Bernice! You deserve it!

I will forever and always be shook that they Went There. This is so awful but so necessary and you orchestrated this so well. The acknowledgment of how much they're both hurting, the family they never really had, the way no one else could understand either of them as well as they understand each other. And yet they're not together, and they never really were, and so you ended it in exactly the right place. They're too broken, too devastated, too raw for anything other than this, a brush with something more and then a retreat back into the old stalemate. This hurts my heart but in a good way, a way that makes sense for these characters in this moment.
rahleeyah chapter 3 . 3/6/2019
Goshhhhhhhhhh I just love this so much. Like, Terry is an ass but he's an ass with a heart of gold. He cares so much and he wants so much and Bernice does too, even if she won't let herself accept it. Showing up at his house like that was bold but obviously it paid off. The shag was fantastic but I so enjoyed the conversation that followed, Terry telling her that she's gorgeous, asking about the kid, Bernice still trying so hard to protect herself. It just feels so real and so true to them.
rahleeyah chapter 2 . 2/13/2019
You have captured their voices so well here (then climb a tree and eat a banana! A bun in the oven that he hadn't baked) that I can just hear them saying the words and honesty that is so so so important. I love Terry's thoughts, his fondness for her, the way he looks forward to her, to seeing her, the way he supports her when he finds out she's made sergeant. He may not use the word love but he wants her all to himself and he's proud of her and he is so affectionate and so careful with her (three times! Good man Terry!) But oh god! The end! Bernice announcing that she's pregnant and determined not to see him again...Oh that hurts. You can understand why she won't stay with him; she's married to someone else and he's *Jarvis* and she doesn't know the fond thoughts he harbors for her. And he'll push back but not enough, because he respects her too much too disregard her wishes completely. But oh the hammer blow at the end; he's going to be a father to a child who will never know him, and now his mother is dead. It hurts! My heart! Even if it's best that he leave his wife instead of continuing to lie to her the way this all shakes out is just so painful. Absolutely captivating work babes.
rahleeyah chapter 1 . 2/13/2019
I AM LIVING ok first of all. Jarvis is a tough character to capture. He's a dick with a heart of gold. And you've done that! He's crude but he cares, he appreciates that Bernice is a good cop and respects her even when he's thinking about how gorgeous she is. And Bernice is understandably confused bc...since when is Terry Jarvis nice? But there is so much at play here. Their animosity isn't so much dislike as it a power play from two people who wish they weren't attracted to one another but can't deny that they are. The way it all spills over in the car; Terry might be obnoxious at times but there's no denying that he cares for her, that he wants to protect her. And she finally let's herself loose with a man who respects her, just as she is, who values her ambition? They are such a good match I love this so much. But oh there's trouble coming, with both of them married...
