Oh gosh this hurts. While we might not have gotten too much of Lightning and his friends' interaction with one another, they all seem to be friendly racers stoked to do what they do, and it's always lovely to imagine what their friendly competition and recreation with Lightning would be like. To have all that in mind and see Bobby ripped away from it all in such a horrible manner, in the middle of doing what should have been so enjoyable and loved for him no less, /hurts/. That said, you're really good at writing angst. I really like how there's this distinct contrast between Cal and Lightning losing one of their trio; Cal loses grip on his emotions and Lightning goes numb. I love seeing different kinds of reactions to a single situation... rather like an extreme type of character study.

Man! That was a depressing story. You know what was funny? I mistook Bobby for Brick when I read the summary. Took me a minute to realize that it was, in fact, Bobby. lol XD

You've done a great job with the emotion and striking the heart to the feels. Especially concerning poor Lightning and Cal. :'(
