Kuann chapter 1 . 7/18/2011 I found this fic on an old Atlantis fansite while browsing the interwebs, to give some background as to why I'm reviewing a 7-year-old story, but it was worth the time to put something down. I don't read much fanfiction, only posting it, because there's always something about the stories that feel off. Either someone's out of character, or a million and a half mistakes are carelessly allowed to exist. Your work has neither of these awful flaws, and I found it quite easy to read through. Your writing style is simplistic, but that's not a bad thing; it doesn't waste the space that more prosy language does. I felt that you told a nice story in a length that was befitting of your plot length, essentially one scene. It was a concise story that I quite enjoyed. I also felt you did rather well with something that almost any Atlantis fanfiction writer gets wrong: Kida's lines. It can be hard to write Kida's dialogue as a writer; without Cree Summers's accented voice to speak them, they look rather awkward. Even I feel like I don't get the Queen of Atlantis quite right half the time, and it's something I pay special attention to. You had some lines that sounded strange with her as well, but not to the point where I could deem her out-of-character. While your writing was clean and free of errors, I feel repetition was your greatest weakness. I haven't read any of your later works, as in works beyond this fic, so this may have been something you've fixed; Kida said the word "Tahbtoap" no less than 13 times in the brief space of her walking to his body. This exists with a few other words too, where the sentences are a bit cookie-cutter and/or frequently used, but it is a problem that pales in comparison to the work as a whole. You maintained the title's theme to the story: losing and finding. It seems a simple thing to say, but it's very easy to get off track by the end of the story. Overall, I give a 9/10. Though it wasn't "the" Milo and Kida fanfic, what you provided was an enjoyable piece that let me look a little longer at my favorite Disney pairing. -Kuann |
