this is an amazing story, and I'm glad everything worked out for Z

Zane settling in next to his father and Dr. Julien wrapping an arm around him under any other circumstances would be adorable, but as-is, it's just sad. And also a little adorable still.
"He had a habit of leaving spaces blank in a futile attempt to convince himself that certain categories didn't exist." THAT'S SO PRECIOUS AND SO HORRIBLY SAD
Zane falling asleep and the other three arguing over whether to wake him breaks my heart.
"He left all of the ownership spaces blank! Shouldn't that tell you something?" POOR ZANE
"The inspection date?" I'd almost forgot about that part. Hngggh. Poor Zane.
"More like a cinder block." Jay's description is apt.
WHEN ZANE SAID THAT MACHINES AREN'T ABLE TO HAVE PARENTS BUT INSTEAD HAVE TO HAVE OWNERS AND STARTED TO CRY MY HEART JUST SHATTERED INTO PIECES
Zane's worries about what will happen and whether he will ever even get to wake up again are just. Just. JUST. AHHHHHHHHHH.
"People suck sometimes." *points emphatically at Nya in agreement*
My thoughts through this whole thing: POOR ZANE POOR ZANE POOR ZANE! But I loved it despite that, or maybe because of that. What an incredible alternate ending!

Okay, first of all, I am VIBRATING with excitement over this. I started writing "Measure of a Man" because I wanted to see more explorations of Zane as a Nindroid (and also because hurt/comfort is my JAM). This? This promises to be exactly what I want. Oh yeah.
Goodness, the other ninja and Nya huddling around Zane comfortingly is so cute, and the different things they're doing are so in-character.
"Zane's name had been dragged through the dirt so many times, it was joked that him and Darreth should switch suits." 1: poor Zane! 2: that's absolutely hilarious. 3: POOR ZANE!
The inclusion of Dr. Julien is awesome. I love him as a character and want so many more stories about him! And the heartbreaking comment of how Dr. Julien is there to learn what papers of ownership he has to file for his SON. AHHHHH.
"Realistically, Father, who does own me?" POOR ZANE I'M GONNA START SOBBING
Zane trying to separate himself from the situation emotionally and look at it legally is both painful and in-character.
"And the last thing they deserve is for you to submit." Dr. Julien bringing the truth!
"All machinery that contains the following functions or hardware will need to be inspected personally by a certified inspector to ensure that it follows the guidelines for public safety." I DIDN'T THINK IT COULD GET MORE ANGSTY BUT IT DID AND BOY HOWDY AM I PLEASED
Dr. Julien holding Zane's hands and Zane kissing him on the forehead goodbye. Adorable. Absolutely adorable. I need so much more of this.
Everyone trying to comfort Zane including the Falcon is so sad and cute. And the way Zane just feels hollow actually might be sadder than if he had felt angry.
Zane almost snaps his phone in half. Poor guy.
"Oh. I'm sorry, that's horrible. The Falcon chirped, suddenly feeling like tearing certain people into pieces." Awww, protective Falcon!
"If you don't get up in the next five minutes I will personally grab a cup of scalding tea and dump it on your head." Pfft.
"They've called me a monster, freak of nature, sub-human, drone, outdated scrap heap, and so much worse things, and what have I done? Brush off accusations, smiled at the crowds, and steered clear of fights, and this is how I'm treated in return?" AHHHHH POOR ZANE
Zane going back to his old village is an interesting twist I didn't expect! I'm really glad everyone there was glad to see him.
And he plays and has a snowball fight with the kids! I love it so much!

"We have all neglected your feelings about the press. We knew they were saying horrible things about you, but allowed it to fester until you started to believe what they were saying yourself. "You're the best freakin' Nindroid ever." Goodness, I love the Falcon.
That ending! The ninja breaking the law to protect Zane and his feelings is wonderful, and the last sentence is adorable.
There are no words to describe how much I love this. Like. No words. It's absolutely amazing. (I will admit, however, that I am incredibly intrigued as to how things would've gone if they had complied. Or what it would look like in this universe when Nadakhan frames the ninja for crimes, would Zane still go to Kryptarium or would something worse befall him? So many thoughts! That's how you know this was a great story.) Also, I can't believe I haven't put you on my Authors lists yet. Done and done!

Ayy, this might be the best Spinoff of a fanfic I've ever seen! This totally has a Measures of a Man type vibe to it, and I can really see it shining through! Good job, mate!
