Reviews for The Things I Miss, The Thing I Don't
Thousandsmiles chapter 10 . 5/26/2018
This was good.
GoodForBad chapter 5 . 5/5/2018
Uggghh my god, this was the scene I never knew I needed.

There's so many brilliant lines in this one that I'm going to showcase them now:

"Remember that one time," Loki lashed out the accusation like a whip, "that you started a war with Jotunheim, apologised, and then saved it again? Why is THAT documented as merely a learning curve?" (Holy crap, yes! He brings up a valid point here. One could say it's hypocrisy, but the actions that followed don't make it so clear cut...)

"Oh will you stop that already?" (Hahahaha! This was hilarious. I know it's a highly charged and emotional scene, but the way he just disregards Thor's outburst is not only fitting, but right in line with their brotherly relationship. Perfect).

"You've been throwing an awful lot of things at me lately. Is this a withdrawal symptom of losing what returns to your after you've violently disregarded it?" (Ohhhhhhhh snap! Obviously this is in regards to Mjolnir, but I feel like if I squint, there's a double meaning in there somewhere. Regardless, what a freaking comeback. I'm over here doing the slowclap but only because I'm trying (and failing) to articulate just how badass that line was).

YES, I'm fully aware that my favorite bits were all Loki lines. But the way you delivered those blows were absolute gold. Silvertongue indeed...

This too was painful. From start to finish, this exchange just hurt. And that parting statement? Ouch. He wants so desperately to be a part, but past sins and hurts won't allow it in his mind. The way you wove the modern shames with the movie canon was breathtaking, and there's something deeply profound in how Loki not-so-subtly acknowledges that he won't end up with his family, even in the afterlife.

And what's worse than that, truly?

The fact that the context of the conversation includes THOR being the perpetrator of his death is...wow. With these two, it's no surprise that it went there. These little brats have the ability to hurt each other deeper than anyone else, and they always do.

Freaking awesome. Honestly - I can't get over how good this is.
GoodForBad chapter 4 . 5/5/2018
OH DAMN IT I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS

My HEART can't take much more, but I absolutely LOVE IT.

(Is there a way to favorite this multiple times?)
GoodForBad chapter 3 . 5/5/2018
I don't know how I only managed to review the first chapter for this fic, but you can expect at least a few more from me as I continue to read through it.

First off, this truly is amazing. I'm talking jaw-dropping, fangirl squealing, hand-clapped-over-the-mouth-so-I-don't-start-cheering-at-work amazing. This chapter in particular had me positively ecstatic, because I didn't really realize how much more these two had to work through. Loki had not confessed the true weight of his crimes to his brother, and the reactions here are straight up perfect. There was something really interesting to me in the segment where Loki is trying to defend himself as Thor continues to plow ahead, then has the "good sense" to shut up. Though Loki is renowned as a Silvertongue and a master of insults, he knows when to back down with Thor. Even if it comes perhaps a moment or two too late.

I love how you write Thor's temper and I ADORE the fact that it's still there. He's developed hugely as a character throughout his films, but that brewing anger that drove him to Jotunheim in the first movie is still very much a part of who he is. It's incredible how you handled that, how it slowly rose and built until the last sentence where he throws a table at Loki's face. I mean, DAMN. Ordinarily I'd be up in arms about anyone hurling objects at the ol' Lokes, but the sequence of events really lent itself to violence (at least where Thor is concerned) and, dare I say, Loki deserved it.

This was actually really heart-wrenching. Loki has carried the guilt of the part he played in his mother's death for years, but confessing it - and to Thor, no less - packs an emotional punch that I could actually FEEL as I read this. Beautifully written. The pacing was perfect.

I can't pick out a favorite line here because the whole damn thing gave me tingles. So kudos, my friend. I'm in awe of your ability once again. Onto the next!
Sadakat chapter 10 . 3/18/2018
Beautiful.
Aurora Marija chapter 10 . 2/14/2018
I just found this story, because another author had recommended you. It's so hard to find quality writing but all the other reviewers are right, your writing and characterization are spot on. The dialogue was just perfect. And now I'm at the end and I can't believe it's over. I like how it ended but... I really hope you write a sequel, dealing with your take on what happens after the ship (whether Thanos or his son) does whatever they're going to do, and if they get to earth, and what happens there. Loki obviously knows they're coming for him lol. Those last few lines when Thor looks at him was just amazing. I need more of this!
Natalie Rushman chapter 10 . 2/8/2018
Nicely done! I like the ambiguity of the ending.

And I can empathize on a deep level with your comment on the end about the editing - lol - the lot of a writer ;)

This chapter is short, but it's perfect. I love all the development you showed us throughout this story. You didn't belabor anything - so it's a really good balance. Very 'in-character' for our boys ;) The resolution was really subtle, like a decision was made and neither of them could have said when. I liked that.

I can't wait to read the other 'Ragnarok' stories you've written!
Natalie Rushman chapter 9 . 2/1/2018
I love that they were just hanging out! That's so cute. The last part of it feels echo-ey - like Thor's stopped hearing what Loki's saying because he's lost in thought. You presented it really well. I know I say it every time (but I also know as a writer, that it never gets old), you write them perfectly. I can't believe there's only one more chapter!
Natalie Rushman chapter 8 . 1/30/2018
Nice ending there! I love that.

This interaction seemed a lot more positive. I feel like they needed that. They can be really sweet together. I think my favorite part was when Thor apologized for throwing the pillow at him.

I hope they can make this work out for them - ultimately. Not just in this fic, but in the movies, too. I don't necessarily hope that Loki doesn't "work for/with" Thanos. I just hope ultimately they stick together.

I say it every time, but it bears repeating. This fic is flawless. Really, my only criticism would be that sometimes *I* can't figure where Loki's coming from when he says things. But who really understands why Loki does what he does, anyway? lol. So far, it is perfect. Part of me can't wait to get to the end to find out what happens. The rest of me never wants it to stop.
Natalie Rushman chapter 7 . 1/30/2018
Damn.

This is powerful. SO good. It's perfect.
Natalie Rushman chapter 6 . 1/25/2018
Yup. Still awesome ;)

I love the way you wrote Banner. Dry. Deliberate. Cautious. The sense of humor was spot-on. I specifically liked the lines about Thor being late, and the elephant-in-the-room, those were funny.

I like that Banner wanted to discuss Loki. It makes sense that he would do that. The fact that they're discussing all this behind Loki's back (how else do you have this conversation? but still...) makes it feel almost...creepy. And the way you have Thor respond - he doesn't ever articulate his feelings, even to himself, but his reluctance comes right through, as does how much he still loves his brother. I can't wait to find out how this resolves.

The stakes are really interesting. Most super-hero movies rely on saving the world as the motivation. The stakes are pretty simple - that if they don't complete the mission, everyone dies. Somehow, this seems more serious.
Natalie Rushman chapter 5 . 1/24/2018
Two chapters today because the last one was so short ;)

This one is amazing! The dialogue is spot-on. I laughed out loud when Loki said, "Oh will you stop that already." Thor's, "And thus there would exist no more civilizations for you to rule. I'm glad you thought that one through," was PRICELESS. And Loki's, "I don't doubt that. I'd FINALLY be dead," was brutal.

I like the glimpses we get of what's going on in Loki's mind. It's sad. He's not very good at getting himself into good situations, is he? The lines where you mention the 'Other' are really chilling. Tom Hiddleston said that Loki's not opposed to being a hero at this point, and that comes through here, in the most poignant way possible.

I really enjoyed getting to see that conversation with Brynhild from both sides. That was really nice. It felt sad, all in its own way. It added depth.

I'm really glad there are another five chapters, because I can't wait to see what other lengths you take it to.
Natalie Rushman chapter 4 . 1/24/2018
I think you win 'shortest chapter ever'. This has surprising depth, given its brevity. I'm impressed.
Natalie Rushman chapter 3 . 1/18/2018
Confession time! Nicely played. I like the way you write Thor. The part where he felt the lightning and he was afraid to blow up half the ship was really well done, and I liked it when he wanted to beat some sense into Loki's "surprisingly senseless brain". I wonder what's prompting Loki to tell him. Thor's kindof myopic, so letting us in on what's going on in Loki's head would be out of scope for this fic, but it makes me wonder ;)
Natalie Rushman chapter 2 . 1/17/2018
This is amazing. I love the way you communicate what Thor is thinking and feeling. You get across SO MUCH - pain, memory, turmoil - with so few words. It's stunning. The inclusion of the quotes from the first movie were particularly powerful. That's my only major complaint for 'Ragnarok' - that they killed off such important characters in Thor's world, without paying any homage to their memory. You did so beautifully. I also appreciated Sif's inclusion - and the manner in which you included her. The fact that she blames Loki so strongly is undoubtedly accurate. Loki's worried about Thanos? Wait until Sif gives him a piece of her mind when she finds out what he did to her home.

The conflict Thor feels about Loki is perfect. I haven't seen anybody on here sum it up like this, and it's just so ACCURATE. God, I love the tension in their relationship.

The whole thing just feels so...disjointed. Reading it, I can feel the shock that they're all going through. Thor doesn't really understand where they're going, and he's still coming to grips with everything he's lost. I love this. I can't WAIT to have more time to catch up and see where you've taken this. Thus far, it's flawless.
