I think that if the ritual will allow him to cast “normal” magic, he should lose the ability to enhance himself as well as he can now. It allows him some leeway with what he knows now but gives him the ability to do what everyone else does too

Well one thing I can think of is that since Ollivander is making this ritual you could have them talk about what he specifically wants to gain and what he would be willing to lose. It would give you some more time to figure out what you want to do and you might have some spontaneous ideas while writing about it.
I think it should happen the summer before 3rd year. It would make sense as then you could say they rushed it a tad because of the threat that Sirius supposedly poses. Otherwise it seems way too soon to do something so permanent without tons more research to triple check everything. Hell if you do it that way you could throw in some unexpected side effects from the ritual either bad, good, or both!

So just finished this reading this story from the beginning. Overall I like it, I think having Harry lean more towards elemental magic would be an interesting twist. I am generally not a huge fan when authors tell me their MC will not be Super OP and will have weaknesses, usually, the weaknesses end up hamfisted imo. In this case, I can see where you were going with the idea, but Harry is definitely OP, he just has a stamina issue lol. I think his fight with the troll was a bit bland with how it ended, and I'm not really a fan of beserkers, so that may be part of the reason. I did like that the girls participated, and that Harry had enough foresight to hold back his powers in the beginning.

Liked thischapter and the way the fight sequence went. Like the friendship you have between Harry/Daphne/Hermoine. These are my 3 favorite characters from stories and fanfic.
