I love it! I don't think read-through stories are overdone. Everyone has their own interpretation and spin on it. I like yours, where it's occurring so early in their lives that none of their relationships have evolved into what the stories will show. These stories all seem to have a different view on what the characters should take away from the books, and I'm very excited to see where you go with that! Please keep at it :)
