This is a gem of a story. I love how you filled in the blanks in the darkest years of young Lucien's life, and I love how at the end of each chapter, you had him cross paths so incidentally with the future Jean Beazley. Delightfully composed.

Oh, lovely, sad but lovely, Jean and Lucien's first meeting. Love Nell and Agnes, their love for Lucien, and Lucien's confusion over his mother's death, the beginning of him losing faith.
