Reviews for Old Friend
poplasia chapter 1 . 10/4/2018
Dude, I frickin' love Fi so much. Can't understand all the hate for her or Skyward Sword.
And the noise in the memory, when I first head that I was just like "No way YES"
Great work!

I love this story.

Thank you so much for writing this, I didn't know how much I needed it. Though Fi drives me absolutely bonkers by interrupting me every thirty seconds to tell me things I already know, I couldn't help but adore her. I ached the entire game for her to show some form of emotion, and when she finally did, it was wonderful. And so in Breath of the Wild, when that little noise played in the final memory, I just about screamed.

I love this story because I'm always in need of a good one shot, something that conveys a lot of emotion in a small number of words. You captured Zelda's voice effortlessly and you wrote Link's reverence to his duty beautifully. "How does an anmnesiac cry from a nostalgia he does not comprehend?" That's a fabulous line. Bravo, 10/10. I would love to read some more.

I loved Fi as a character, but her habit of calculating probability for things that were already happening bordered on nerve-wracking. Still, her farewell was emotional.

At least it's not saying your Wii more batteries are dying

This. Was. AMAZING. You have a way with words that is just astounding. Everything was so painfully beautiful. I loved the insight into Zelda's thoughts as she realizes that no, she is not hearing things; the sword is talking to her. The way she slips into complete and utter despair as she loses the last person she still had left was convincing and heartbreaking. You are able to say so much with so little. Case in point: "Let historians who find our shadows hand in hand tell the story themselves." I actually missed the undertone to this statement the first time I went through the piece, but on my second read, I picked up that she had resigned herself to death. Beautiful.

Both of these retellings were masterfully done. Your descriptions are vivid and filled with life. Each section has a good pacing to it. The characters are, for lack of a better term, in character. Everything was on point. Well done!

P.S. I didn't hate Fi, per say. I just really hated the constant reminder of low batteries. Couldn't they have just made a little pop-up window in the corner of the screen instead? I enjoyed her character and LOVED the cameo in BotW! -
