my heart broke with every word in the book. i hope no child has to go through such extreme abuse but i am aware that the world is cruel. i hope that all the children suffering from abuse and neglect get the required help.

This IS NOT the Severus Snape of JKR's creation. If you wish such a character in your story you might be better served to create one from your imagination or find a lessor known professor to develop rather than one from such a well developed character. You can't just "sissiefy" and defang the potion professor without destroying the creditability of the story.
