I am presently not familiar with the main story, but thanks to this little drabble of yours I may make the time to do so. It's nice to read about the future of team RWBY, especially since Vol 3 left a lot of things up in the air. Taiyang bawling with Qrow and a box of tissues by his side is hilarious, as is the fact that Weiss is barely holding it together behind Blake. Writing-wise, the flow of the story is constant, which is always nice. No cases of bad grammar or wrong spelling, so I don't know what else to say. It's hard to get a grasp on writing when it's just over 1k in length. I liked this. Keep writing the good write!
