Reviews for Facing His Father
Northgalus2002 chapter 1 . 8/25/2016
This was a nice one-shot with Shining Armor awaiting his wedding to Princess Cadence (the real one) and acknowledging to his (and Twilight's) dad, Night Light, that he made a mistake in taking the word of Queen Chrysalis (disguised as Cadence) over Twilight's.

But while Night Light acknowledges that Shiny and Cadence did save Canterlot from the changelings, he admonishes his son that in the future he would listen to his sister and not react rashly.

The Changelings are among my favorite MLP antagonists (along with Nightmare Moon and Tirek, as well as Discord before his reformation), but with the recent Season 6 episode "The Times They are a-Changeling" we find that there is at least one Changeling (Thorax, who is befriended by Spike) who would rather not feed on the love of other ponies. That could put things in a new direction for these characters. Somehow I don't think Queen Chrysalis would be too keen on changing her game plan.

Anyway, good story.

As the healing process between Shining Armor, the Mane 5, Spike and Celestia with Twilight was taking shape following the Changelings and Chrysalis' exile, Night Light came to his son to discuss his selfish actions during the wedding rehearsal. Needless to say, Night was ashamed of Shining for dishonoring their family and for his breaking Twilight's heart for trying to protect everyone. With newfound knowledge and a fuller understanding of the aftermath had his sister not came to their rescue and brought back the true Cadence, Shining vowed to never make such a rash mistake towards his own family ever again. Despite not fully healing from the weight of his actions, the wedding rehearsal and the pain that resonated from it was gone and he found inner peace with himself.

Let's hope that he keeps true to his vow and not overdo it to the point when he becomes a maniac or like Lock Down since there are moments when he would let his brotherly love and protective nature get in the way somehow after the whole Canterlot Wedding fiasco. Even so, I'll be willing to give Shining the benefit of a doubt since he now knows fully that two wrongs don't make a right.
