I'm saying this now, I have never seen any of the How to Train Your Dragon movies or anything related to it. But I feel as someone who hasn't seen the movies, I can still offer something. I like this story; it's short and sweet. But it's more than just that. Whether someone has seen the movies or not, this story here gives an insight into the type of relationship Hiccup and Astrid have. I am not sure if their relationship is explored in the movies but this is an instance which I believe COULD happen between these two. I love experiencing scenes between two people where one person is injured and the other person is tending to their wounds. These scenes are always so intimate and you bring out that intimacy here, which I like. Because, honestly, it's kind of embarrassing when someone tends to your wounds, especially if it is the person you care about the most. And you bring out this embarrassment with words like "sheepishly" while you bring out the care with words like "gently", "comfortably", "gingerly".

The fact that Hiccup cares for Astrid so much that he would rather have taken the arrow than her says a lot about how he feels towards her. He loves and cares for her and wants her to live a worthwhile life. But it's also a selfishness every partner shows. They don't consider their lives as important as their S.O. and would be willing to sacrifice themselves. It shows a great degree of love and selfishness. Because Astrid doesn't like that and wants HIM to live. So they compromise in the end, which I find very satisfying. Keep up the good work!
