About your theory about what was really the Ron-Horrocrux interaction, I must say it is the very best ever never wrote. Simplelly. It is credible, original, easy, painfull... magical! So is so perfect.
By the Malfoy Manor affairs and laters Shell Cottage events... well simplelly is was the real and wrong mistake inside all JKR work.
She was so obsessed with her protagonist Harry and his desperate plan against the clock to stop Voldemort, that she ignored the two authentic protagonists of what was really happening in that house.
A lot happened under that roof, but as far as the plan of attack against Voldemort is concerned, it was only a few. Most of the time they were healing and recovering physically after the hardships of flight.
But within those walls something else was forged that Harry was. . . Unknown? To the sealing of Ron's infinite love for Hermione. To the acceptance of his own destiny. He would be his last line of defense. To damage her again, they'd first have to pull her wand out of her cold dead fingers. And for her the realization of a similar pact. Nothing would come between her and him. No more Vicktors, no more Lavenders. . . She would take what was hers, protec him and only death would be able to stop her.
If I think about it calmly, it's better this way.
JKR could only have completed a finite number of pages about Ron and Hermione in that place. But you writers have written infinite pages of love that have warmed and overwhelmed our hearts.

I like that neither of them talked themselves out of accepting the kiss for what it was; an I love you, but not merely as friends kiss. If you are looking for something else to write, I would love to see a story where they never doubt each other and make false assumptions. A story where Ron sees how upset she is over Lavender and stops immediately to admit how he truly feels. Then they would be together from that day forward. Girls could try to separate them, and jealousy could cause issues, but they would always work it out without hurting each other further. Or, when Ginny tells Ron he's the only one who's never been kissed, he could go to Hermione and tell her he wants her to be his first. Either would be so lovely. They could always just fall in love from the very beginning too. From all the way back to second or third year?
