Reviews for Grim Tales: Complex
Nostalgia Fiction chapter 32 . 9/29
Noticed that I never wrote my thoughts on this chapter despite reading it so long ago. Might as well do it now. First off, RIP Billy and Grim. Mr. Turner doesn't mess around...well actually he messes around a lot but he managed to kill both of Mandy's best friends in the span of one chapter. Poor Billy though, dude genuinely just wanted to help his friend and he got erased from existence. Something I really liked were Timmy's words on Billy and Mandy; one is the heart an one is the brains, and both lack what the other needs. It's such a good summation of their relationship. What Timmy doesn't know(or probably is too spiteful to care about) is that there are moments where both do display instances of their lacking flaws. There were times where Billy displayed some genuine wisdom(like in Big Boogey Adventure where equates Fred Fred Burger eating Nacho's to them discovering through their journey that they were able to accomplish all of their goals without needing Horror's Hand) and Mandy has showed that she does have feelings and can feel empathy for people( like when she got sad after Billy was eaten by a Kraken). Unfortunately, it looks like Billy's not always fine anymore.

And poor Grim too. Not only has Boogie murdered children and fused their souls to his body from right under Grim's non existent nose for decades, but the deadbeat he hates has made it so he suffers the same fate. However, wishful thinking makes me believe that Grim isn't really dead. The narration calls Boogie Grim's murderer because that what Junior thinks at the moment, and Boogie thinks so as well because he is yandere for Timmy and thinks highly of his abilities. But if anything, Boogie just absorbed him like he did the other monster kids. Boogie was able to keep the kid's soul's contained, but Grim is THE Grim Reaper, and Timmy has a habit of not thinking his decisions through all the way. And if genre savviness serves me right, then Boogie was probably teleported somewhere near where Pandora's Ghost, Scotsman, and Minnie are, because that's where most of the other plot relevant characters are. Wishful thinking hopes that during the eventual confrontation between Boogie and Minnie(because Boogie's a creep), Grim will reawaken and burst out of Boogie's body like Thanatos from Persona 3, and proceed to utterly annihilate Boogie for for trying to touch his daughter as well as what he did to those kids. It'd also be a neat callback to Before the Burial. But that's just hopeful thinking for me, he could just be dead. So again, poor Grim and Billy.

While I don't like Timmy for causing both their deaths, I do see his point of view from all this. Let's not get it twisted, Mandy IS evil. If HIM hadn't destroyed the world, she would've definitely conquered it herself. From his POV, Mandy stole his son and let Grim kill it to make it a reaper. Out of context, he is totally in the right. But in context, he comes off just as really selfish. Is it really his place to say anymore that Junior is "his" son after not being in his life for so long? This is more egregious coming from the original concept of the comic, where he outright bailed after finding out Mandy was pregnant. He comes across as just as self centered as his worst moments in the original Fairly Odd Parents. Granted he was actively kept from him in this story but still.

This brings me to an interesting idea about the future fight between Timmy and Junior. It's practically a running gag that just as Junior is about to be told that Timmy is his birth father, he gets interrupted. I think that instead of the expected dramatic reveal, Junior would already know. He's a smart boy, he's probably able to piece together context clues he's been given throughout the story by now, plus he probably noticed how he and Timmy look so much alike. Plus it would bring the TFS reference full circle with a character already knowing something meant to be a dramatic reveal. And I think that him knowing this, and the audacity of Timmy trying to get Junior to join him, is going to be what finally breaks the camel's back. HIM already pointed out how Junior is always a slave to other people's wants and needs, plus Junior's already not in the best place mentally. Now all of the sudden, this beaver toothed magic man comes into his life, tries to kill most of his friends and family, and is now trying to be "his dad"? Sorry Timmy, but Junior already has a dad. A dad who isn't afraid of his feelings, and the funny noises or smells that come out his non existent butt. A tall bold dad, who has a really cool job. A dad who wears a suave black robe and carries a magic scythe ,and has no skin or organs, and flames shoot out of his eyes whenever he gets really angry. And Timmy JUST HAD HIM KILLED. I think that's going to be what finally sets Junior off to where he goes "fuck everyone Imma do what I want! ". Then again, Daniella couldn't figure out that Dan was her "father" despite them having very similar features AND having almost the same name, so anything's possible. This idea could also work if he doesn't already know though.

QTP:
1. I don't know.
2. It could be that he can't. Maybe Mjolnir and it's magic has some kind of special connection to Billy that not even Mandy or Grim no about. Which could further imply that maybe he's NOT dead, at least not in the traditional sense. But that's probably just wishful thinking; he probably just didn't think of it or doesn't want to touch it cause Billy's gross.
is mad at Mandy and Grim specifically, and he wants Junior because he's "his" kid. Timmy probably doesn't care about the other kids and just wants to leave him be if possible. Remember, Timmy sees himself as the good guy in this situation. He even tells Billy that they could've been friends if Billy wasn't oblivious to how evil Mandy is.
though Timmy is probably more destructively powerful than Junior, I'm gonna say yes. After all, we don't see or hear anything about Timmy in those dark futures.

Hey it’s me again so a new year is approaching us and with it here’s hoping we see more of this story and all of aros’s other amazing stories. So I’m gonna point out another thing that probably should have back in one of the past chapter (not sure why I didn’t) but regarding the Mimi’s child’s name I couldn’t help but noticed that you and some of the readers here gave names to the kid with Him in it and I I’m not trying to disrespect or disregard anyone’s choices in naming but I don’t think Chi and Mimi would want to name their kid after Him since well they hate Him I mean the bastard killed all of Mimi’s friends and family and made her life a living hell so considering that it really wouldn’t make since for them to give their kid any name with Him in it. I’m not trying to get you to disregard any of the choices for names here but it’s a thought you may want to consider when picking out the name. I’m personally hoping the kid is a girl or twins to be honest. So with that rant done, Christ almighty I write too much, I wish you and every other reader here a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.

I know that this comment might be a little late but I noticed that some of the commenters believed that jr was the father of mimi’s kid but honestly that doesn’t seem to be the case here because there’s been no hints in this story whatsoever that he is the father plus if he was he’d have more of a reaction to it all. So I’m 100% sure chi is the father and it is possible since Aros explained in one of the older chapters that she could shapeshift into a man or grow the genitalia of one so there’s your answer. Mostly likely she did the latter to impregnate Mimi I’m I hope jr is not the dad or anyone else just chi because that would suck and make no sense. Just saying this is better.
