Reviews for Desert Crossing - a Cooper Smith Story
Carolyn chapter 1 . 8/10
You are a wonderful writer. I was more than delighted to find a good Cooper Smith story. They are few and far between, and good ones are even more rare. Please don't let this be your last one.

This is the third time I have read your story. Outstanding work. Great stories are like that, rereading is as pleasurable as the first read. Poor Coop was so sick! I can see the other characters as they greeted him. Can't wait for more of your work.

Good Story...perfect ending for the original "Wagon Train" episode...that one was sad and put you through an empathetic roller-coaster...this story gives you hope

Love stories about Coop and Jess. Would like to read one about how Coop came to be on the wagon train since the writers did not tell us. I only bought the seasons that have Robert Fuller in them and was disappointed that they did not tell us more of his story.

nice story. Coop was so sweet with Millie and this follow up fits it really well. An enjoyable read.

Janet chapter 1 . 4/4/2016
I just saw this episode last night. What a rough episode for Coop. Emotionally and physically.

He didn't want to break Millie's heart so he kept the necklace? at her mother's insistence.

Then he gets beat up, knocked in the head, boots and shirt stolen and he has to try and assist four other people - including a twelve year old girl - get across the desert.

I half expected him to start bawling when MIllie died. He was so torn up over it. And then having to track down the Bancroft's (against Chris' wishes) because he felt it was his job. (Sure wished he'd gone for Duke like Chris wanted). I was VERY glad when Bill found him so close to the train that he was able to get him help quickly - and the others.

In this story I can't imagine how he felt when he couldn't find Millie's grave. Then he gets bitten by a rattlesnake and is very ill. Visited, perhaps, by an angel taking the form of Millie as the adult she would have been.

Love Bill's greeting. I can easily see him reacting that way - and Duke and Charlie. Good old Charlie wanting to make a cake to celebrate. Barney was more than willing to be cook's helper for that event.

Great story. I really liked it a lot.

Well done! Skillful storytelling! The WT episode on which you based your tale is such a good one and lets us see Coop's strength & gentleness. You really captured all of that essence in your tale. Echoing some of the sentiments already expressed here, I hope you write more Wagon Train/ Cooper Smith stories soon!

I've just discovered FanFiction and was thrilled to find your story based on Coop's story! You captured the sweetness that was between Coop and Milly in their original story. Please continue to write Wagon Trail (Coop Smith) stories for us. We really miss the old western series.

I finally found time to read your story and I am glad I did. I found it easy to transition from all the Jess stories to Coop in your story. Very enjoyable and well written. Thank you.

Excellent story.
Dresert Crossing chapter 1 . 1/12/2016
Thanks for a really good escape from all else on my mind. Your story is very well written, and I love that you included the "angels." SHR
Maria chapter 1 . 1/11/2016
Thank you, Kayaklady, for another great story. I love how the tale develops, revealing little by little that Milly were never really gone. Children give lightness to otherwise heavy burdens.
I love how you let us see Milly's presence like behind a very thin curtain, that seems much thicker to the most of us.
Noni chapter 1 . 1/10/2016
Thank you for this very well written story. Was able to picture it all while reading
Patty W chapter 1 . 1/10/2016

Thanks again, Cheers Patty
Gail Gerstenlaue chapter 1 . 1/9/2016
A great sequel, highly satisfying, with a wonderful sense of the closeness of the spiritual that seems essentially Western. The quietly matter-of-fact exposition of the relationships has the same feel; reminiscent of Will James' and Owen Wister's novels. Great job!
