There are so many things I love about this story. You absolutely deserve a more coherent review than I am capable of at the moment. So very past my bedtime. Here goes anyway :D

I can absolutely see Kakashi self destructing and pushing everyone away if Shikako died. Any of his genin really. Especially if he was right there and failed to save them. His and Sasukes heartbreak kicked me right in the feels.

I would love to have seen him tell people when he got home who she was. I feel like Kakashi, having established that she is, in fact, Shikako, can't see why everyone is being so dramatic about it. XD

I love that he's adopting her. Protective Kakashi is adorable. I'm kind of shocked the Nara are allowing it. At the end, with Team 7 putting away groceries and Shikamaru pulling Shikako onto his lap was the perfect ending.

I have this image in my head of Kakashi showing up to a fight with Kako on his hip, setting her down and giving her a "go play nice with the other children" type speech XD

(...And great job with EVERYTHING so far. This has been a really good read and I loved the different approaches you took to this idea. I especially adore how much this reveals about Shikako's interactions and relationships with different characters and I doubt the last chapter will change how I feel about any of the above.)
I can see why this chapter would have been the one you were most excited about.

To loose someone two times in a row... but I loved that you let her name get written on Sunas KIA stone.
The last chapter was harsh tough : the lines "Nobody bets on never. Nobody wins the bet" and "Who are you?" brought me very close to crying omg
