So what Death said about Riding the Boom being the only way to fly is False.

This had potential, but didn't seem to quite fulfill it. First off, you basically get one suspension of disbelief of your big plot difference free. That would probably be Death training Sophie before Hogwarts. Having her be the Heir of Slytherin, which makes an easy proxy with the authority of Slytherin, which has ultimate veto in the Wizengamot and ultimate power in Hogwarts is probably too far with the previous. The bit where Lucius tries to force some law to basically legalize forced marriage was just wrong and didn't really help your plot. Death's continual help after she starts Hogwarts is just too world tilting. A similar story might have been possible where say the Flamels raise Sophie, but with fitting everything else better.
