I love languages, so reading your writing is such a pleasure! I sometimes get distracted looking up some of the dialects and less common languages you mention. Plus, I love how you address cultural differences. In this chapter in particular, I enjoyed your description of the multi-lingual 'family.' Generally, I love how much thought is put into the characters and world-building!

Hard to see for example doesn't work in German. That would be 'schwierig/schwer'. Difficile isn't 'hard' either... But schwer may also mean heavy. But then you could loop back to duro (Spanish or Italian) and the various meanings and connotations... And languages from roher language families would offer sooo much :-)

*Please* tell me that "people who have personality disorders are all scum" is Mainomai's distorted perception of reality and not how you actually feel about these things.

I know a lot of people whose diagnoses include the phrase "personality disorder", who are in fact kind, gracious, wonderful souls because they work at it.

Maínomai is another one of those completely amazing secondary characters. It makes me want to give him a huge hug and bring him home like a puppy. Of course, I suspect he would be a lot more difficult than even the craziest puppy. But he’s so adorable.

I like how accurate your description of ADHD meds was. It pretty much matched up with what I experienced when I was on meds full-time until 3 years ago. I was on them for so long, I still get confused at how often I'm hungry, and I often slept through and nearly failed my afternoon classes.

Interesting side story, I probably wouldn’t have split it off, considering the timeline, but more power to you...

And this makes a great story for the madman to tell his sky. Or worse Investigator and the things.
