I do love the complexity of Anne Shirley and the steadfast love of Gilbert Blythe!

Oh this is great

This was a beautiful, well-written one shot, all the more interesting since it was written from Gilbert's point of view.

I haven't read many fan fictions for this series, so it was good to read about Gilbert's thoughts and expectations, for once. I never thought of Anne as a person who would play with someone else's feelings before, but, seeing it from this perspective, I agree. It might not have been intentional, but it was cruel, nevertheless, and I especially liked how Gilbert slowly stepped back and stopped searching for the blame in himself. He tried often enough, apologized many times, and yet Anne remained stubborn and, to a degree, arrogant. Anne's transition from a haughty teenage girl to a woman, in your story, comes with Matthew's death, and it is marked well. The ending is very, very good: the silent communication between Anne and Gilbert, one I'm pretty sure she isn't aware of, but it stops the story at a point at which everything is open and their future is theirs to take. It's unsure whether Gilbert still loves her, but nevertheless, they could be friends now.

I think you did a very good job on this. I hope you will continue with this theme and finish this movie and the next one. I think it would make a very good story and I would love to hear your take on Gilbert's thoughts in that one.
