Definitely Richard. I take into account the time period he grew up in and what his parents/society taught him. However if an adult, why can't Richard get outside of his own head enough to a) realise that times changed and b) accept how Roy feels.
Even if it's not something Richard would ever feel. Even if he doesn't like it. Roy's father is old, stalwart and unforgiving, and he's going to die that way.

As for Roy getting revenge? My answer is no. Leave his father alone in his (Richard's) desperate attempt to keep the past traditions intact. Let his father be in his pretend world where everything is perfect.

*shrugs* I don't mean to offend anyone with this comment but the author asked my opinion and got it.

Roy is a decent human being. That should be enough.
