Astrid is so OOC in this fanfic as to be "Astrid" in name only. You really should get to know your subject matter better-especially their core characteristics as presented in canon.

Writing torture scenes is not necessary for a good story. The torture can be referenced without being explicit and serve plot just as well.

Also, Valka just kept hidden like a coward, while Hiccup actually did something to end the war facing his dad and the village to do so.

I love this story, I've never read one like it before :) Alvin is so stupid, whatever answers he wants from Hiccup, he could just ask his magic crystal ball. It will tell him. Anything. He. Wants. It's magic duh.
Stoick is just too stoic for his (or anyone else's) good. Hiccup really puts up with a lot. Hope you can update this soon even though reading and writing your own story can be hell like: Writer: omgosh I can't believe I wrote that...
