Just so you're aware - the monkey selfie is NOT public domain. It was stolen from the photographer and put out as public domain by Wikimedia. When the photographer notified Wikimedia, Wikimedia claimed the photo under a legal technicality - the monkey pushed the button on the camera, and therefore was technically the photographer and nonhumans cannot hold copyright. The photographer is still pursuing the case legally. The really sad part of the whole thing is that the photographer was using the photo as a fundraiser for conservation when the image was stolen and spread all over the web as "public domain."
