It's great to some Ascension stuff and this seems to be a very good story. The fast paced action succeeds at being interesting and exciting.

“a being so vile that horror novels hadn't been invented for them yet.” I like this line.

I personally would have addressed the fact that he crashed through something while leaping out of the window a bit more, particularly as he is carrying a child.

“Unless the beasts He swore under his breath, the beasts were implanted with cameras.” You probably want some punctuation after “Unless the beasts”.

I liked Tom's interaction with the girl.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this continues.
