Great chapter! I can actually see this scene play out for real with Toph torn between her duty as Chief of Police and her responsibilities as a mother. Her asking Sokka's opinion on the issue was also believable too, great job :)

I like your explanation of what happened to a scene that always bothered me. Toph is still acting like a mother, but it also is letting her desire to do other things shine. She was never the kind for a normal job anyway.
