Reviews for Tenets of Life
monsterjamvadim chapter 2 . 1/31
I'm glad GOGO is very supportive of Hiro
DinoGuy2000 chapter 5 . 1/24/2019
This was a wonderful fic! I loved all the character interactions, and the characters themselves! Ah, I'm a bit scatterbrained. Definitely not my best review. Er, I really liked the scene with Gogo in the lab, and I liked when Hiro showed up and interacted with Gogo as well! Oh! And the scene where everyone finds out that Hiro has Baymax's Healthcare chip! I liked that one too!

I'm trying to catch up on reviewing fics I read but didn't get a chance to review. I won't be able to get to Indomitable Force for a little while I think, but I know I'll enjoy re-reading it.

Great fic! Good work!

fuck you then
DarkMasterofCupcakes chapter 3 . 3/2/2017
I really can't say I'm at all surprised that Hiro is having nightmares, considering all he's had to go through recently. He was likely already having nightmares about Tadashi's death, and even without the loss of Baymax, the whole incident regarding Callaghan would have been pretty traumatic, between Hiro learning the man who seemed to be one of his idols was indirectly responsible for his brother's death, and the fight itself, where every member of the team had their lives in pretty significant danger, including Hiro himself. He might have seemed fairly level-headed during the fight...but I think we both know that once the immediate danger was gone and he could "allow" himself to be afraid, he was terrified, even if he wouldn't show it.

I also like how you bring up the question of what Hiro and Cass are going to do with Tadashi's things, because that is a question that both needs to be answered and that I'm sure no one wants to answer...because it's a question they shouldn't even be needing to ask.

Hiro's thoughts about both the school and what he wants to do with his life are really interesting. I'm sure I've seen a decent amount of people talk about Hiro not really being in a hurry to attend classes, even after the team defeats Yokai, but this might be the first story I've read that acknowledges that Hiro probably didn't have much of a plan for his future even before the fire. He wanted to go to SFIT, yes, but outside of working on robotics with Tadashi, he likely didn't have anything specific planned for what he wanted to focus on.

I have to admit, I smiled a little at Hiro's thoughts when he found out that Tadashi's password was his name, because that is true: having your name be used as a password by someone else can be creepy, flattering, or both, depending on your relationship with the other person.

I really like how Honey Lemon actually explains what happened to Cass, instead of just leaving her in the dark. I know you could argue that she would be happier if she didn't know the details, but I think she'd appreciate not being left in the dark when it involves that kind of thing, especially when it involves Hiro. She deserves to be at least somewhat informed about what he's been up to recently.

I also really, really love that Honey is apparently comfortable and familiar enough with Cass to not be really formal and call her "Ms. Hamada", but also doesn't seem comfortable just calling her by her first name. I imagine she'd be that way even if Cass told her it was fine to drop the formalities and just call her "Cass"

The entire last segment made me smile a little; I always love to see Cass and Hiro interacting like this - you can literally feel how much they love and care for each other.
DarkMasterofCupcakes chapter 2 . 1/5/2017
I can't begin to tell you how much the idea of the team helping Aunt Cass out with the cafe makes me smile. I don't know why I never thought about it before, though, considering, as soon as you brought it up, it seemed like it was literally among the most fitting things for them to do. Even taking into account the fact that I'm assuming Cass asked them to do this, you can't deny that it's still a really sweet gesture on all of their parts.

One thing I'd love to have in the series is either an explanation or a scene showing how the team came up with their name. After all, the first time the name is actually brought up is at the very end of the movie, and we never actually get any discussion of a name for the team during the film...besides "Fred's Angels", of course.

I fully understand why they'd want to keep quiet about what happened in regards to the media. Even if you don't take the possibility of their loved ones being in danger as a result of their identities being public knowledge (especially so soon after their first "adventure" as a superhero team) into account, I'm sure that they'd all want to at least try to maintain some sense of normalcy in their everyday lives, which would be difficult if everyone knows they stopped the attack on KreiTech. Still, not getting any recognition at all has got to be a little bit of a bummer.

The idea that Aunt Cass doesn't actually know the real names of GoGo, Honey Lemon, and Wasabi is definitely an interesting one, and it makes sense that she'd want to know their real names.

Fun little coincidence: I actually headcanon GoGo as being adopted as well. Or, at least, I think it's a headcanon, since I don't remember that ever being brought up in any official media based on the movie...and I also don't know much of anything about the original comics.

Maybe it's because what I've seen of the comic and the actual movie seem so different, but I keep forgetting that Big Hero 6 is a part of Marvel, so the mention of SHIELD knocked me for a loop for a split second. And of course Fred would have connections to them...though depending on if the events of the MCU are canon to all Disney-owned Marvel properties...maybe they should avoid SHIELD for a while.

Yet another interesting thing you bring up that I don't think I've seen be acknowledged before: Hiro's thoughts regarding the circumstances of losing Baymax. Depending on how you look at the situation, he lost Baymax because he both saved an innocent women...and because he helped the man who indirectly caused his brother's death to get what he wanted most. That has to be a pretty difficult internal debate to go through at any age, never mind when you're barely a teenager.

The fist bump moment was pretty adorable, as was the hug. GoGo teasing Hiro like that is genuinely great to see.
DarkMasterofCupcakes chapter 1 . 12/31/2016
First of all, I just want to say that just the idea of this fic alone is interesting, considering I don't think I've ever seen another story that takes place in the space between the battle at KreiTech and Hiro's rebuilding Baymax, even though in hindsight it was probably pretty obvious that there was enough time between the two events for a decent amount of stuff to happen. After all, Hiro might be a genius when it comes to robotics, but rebuilding Baymax from scratch had to have taken some time, even if Hiro could find Tadashi's plans/blueprints for the marshmallow. That's not even going into the fact that it does seem like a bit of time passed before Hiro even discovered Baymax's healthcare chip was still in his rocket fist.

It also makes sense that someone would approach at least one of the members of the team regarding what happened. Even though the news says that no one knows who the heroes actually were, I'd say there's a good chance that was just a media cover-up, and chances are somebody recognized at least one of the members of the team and would have reported it to someone. After all, even though they did defeat Yokai/Callaghan, that doesn't change the fact that they do technically have weapons. Though I do find it funny that Hiro's suit is the first one to be confiscated, considering as far as I'm aware, his suit doesn't really give him any fighting capabilities outside of being able to magnetically hang onto Baymax during flight.

It's also nice to see that the police actually take an interest in what happened at KreiTech, even if it's also kind of frustrating to see how they talk to Hiro, and them asking if Baymax was just another battling robot does feel like a bit of a punch to the gut, for reasons I can't fully explain. Maybe because, for a moment during the film, Hiro did essentially treat Baymax like a weapon, and that accusation from the officer just brought back that memory for a moment.

The characterizations and interactions between Aunt Cass and Hiro are just perfect. I especially liked getting to see how Hiro felt about how he'd tried to take advantage of Baymax, and him wondering how Tadashi would feel about Baymax now being programmed to fight, even if he still would never harm living creatures. It's an interesting idea that I don't really see brought up much, even though, when you mention it, it makes perfect sense that Hiro would wonder about that stuff.

Also, love that Aunt Cass knows about Hiro being a superhero pretty much right away. Though I have to ask if the moment she spied on was any particular moment from the film, or if it was just something we didn't see.
jesi ki kage chapter 5 . 7/4/2016
I love this! Totally want to read more! Why no updates? Okay so I get that this is actually a good stopping point because it shows Hiro settling in with the others and them all bonding together, plus some GoGo/Hiro foreshadowing, but come on! You could develop the idea of a secret partner or an additional threat to keep the story going. Or make the follow up a separate story with this the prequel. Anyways, thank you for writing this great story. -Jesi Ki Kage
Dark Inu Fan chapter 5 . 11/27/2015
It takes time, effort and a reason, but eventually things do get better. They're never the same again, but you learn to work with what's left. Going to college and working his way forward, that was a good way for Hiro to start working his way back. If you didn't already know, search'n'rescue robots are already a thing, but I have no doubt that Hiro will take what's already there and make it huge! Right now, SnR robots look kinda like dog/crab monsters. Not very reassuring, but they can at least go where humans and dogs can't. The important thing, though, would be the whole 'rescue' part. As far as I know, the current robots can't... exactly... do that. yet. Keep up the good work, dark

Awesome chapter, and I loved this follow up. It would make sense that the police would have to interrogate Hiro about what happened. Nicely done on this.
