I cherish Ruki and Juri's friendship to much and it just made me laugh when Juri scolds her for not telling her about Riki's relationship with Jen~ I can definitely see Ruki wishing to confide in Juri over it but just couldn't considering she didn't know what Jen and her were, relationship wise. Overall a great chapter and A writing !

I'm crying with this chapter. Honestly, I was expecting the anguish but nothing to this extent *sobs* it was great and I loved how you showed how Ruki has been so adapted to having Jen around to do anything "normal" or by herself again it makes me so sad and it hurt my heart 3 I can only imagine how Jen must have felt through the whole time of not being with Ruki. Overall I just love the way you write their relationship it's so fricken beautiful and makes my heart seize with feels !

This is just the best jenruki fanfic I've read in a long time. Your other fic A Surprise is just the best and utterly beautiful! I loved reading every bit of it and I pray hay you make more jenruki cause I love them so much and the idea of what could have been ;w; I still believe that they should be together 3

So I've just reread "A Gift" and "A Surprise" for the second (second and a half?) time since they were first posted and I figured I ought to take the time to express my deep appreciation of your work in honoring one of my OTPs from such an old 'verse that most people have forgotten. Even rarer than a new Tamers story is one where Rika never had a prior romantic relationship with Ryo, so my sincerest thanks for that as well. I still need to rewatch the series now that's on Netflix, but your in-character dialogue and development is spot-on to my memory of this group that it feels like no time has passed at all.

The only crit I have is that the final chapter(s) of "Surprise" mentions Rika's pregnancy as 37 "months" when I'm sure you meant to write "weeks", but it still hasn't been edited.

Also, may I request an additional prequel to this series? I'd really love to read about the very beginning of 1) Jen & Ruki's relationship leading up to, and including the first kiss, with Jen confiding to Takato about his unrequited feelings. 2) Something to explain Seiko's /suspicions knowledge of their secret relationship as told here:
'Seiko laughs at them. "Well, if you'd like, you could sleep here tonight. I'm sure you still remember the way to your room." She says to Ruki, though she gives Jen a pointed look.
"Grandma!" Ruki cries, scandalized.
"You knew?" Jen asks incredulously.
"Oh, not about that, at first. What sort of grandmother would I be if I knowingly allowed such behavior to continue under my roof?" She laughs again at the sight of the couple red-faced and wide-eyed.'
And 3) something from the college years (what did they major in?) such as the reference in this snippet:
'It's comforting, the way they have to squeeze together to fit in this bed. It reminds Ruki of days spent hiding out in Jen's dorm room, only now they've got a baby right next to their bed.'
