So let me get this straight, you say Pacific Rim has a stupid premise and yet Gurren Lagann doesn't. WOW! Talk about hypocritical.

Sigh. I do not care for Pacific Rim, but that movie did NOT ripp Evangelion off. Not to sound rude, but if you honestly think that, that is because you are very young and/or you must have watched very few mecha shows.

Your summary of Pacific Rim can be used to describe nearly all giant robot series EVER. If you are going to accuse Pacific Rim of ripping Evangelion off, then Evangelion is a rip-off of nearly all giant robot anime shows ever done before 1995. Do you want some examples? Long before that Evangelion was created, Ken Ishikawa (kind-of creator of Getter Robo, first combining mecha. You can find shout-outs to Getter Robo in all giant robot series made for Anno, including Eva) created a manga where a young boy fights monsters in Tokyo using a berserker, cannibalistic cloned bio-mech. And then you have Anno stating that Evangelion is a mix of Ideon (a deconstruction of the humongous mecha genre. Let's say that the story was concluded with a movie where everybody died and their souls merged and ascended to a higher place of existence) and Devilman...

Those are two examples. I can think of much more (such like the ending of Space Warrior Baldios: the end of the world happens, all humankind dies, and the only survivors are the hero and the tsundere girl that he has a love/hate relationship with. And the last scene features them both waking up in a beach).

Look, there is no such thing like an original story. All of them use tropes created long ago. I am a veteran mecha fan, I have watched dozens of mecha shows and I can tell you that Evangelion has no one original element. No one. It is all borrowed from other older series (it is not surprising since Anno is a bigger mecha anime geek than me). It does not mean that Evangelion is bad (J. R. R. Tolkien gleefully borrowed tropes of European myths and epic sagas to craft the Middle-Earth world), but claiming that Pacific Rim ripped Eva off is as silly as claiming that Naruto ripped Dragon Ball off only because both series use tropes that existed LONG before Toriyama created Dragon Ball.

And I am sorry telling you, but the premise of Pacific Rim is not stupid. The Kaiju can not be defeated by conventional weaponry for the same reasons that the Angels can not be defeated by conventional weaponry: because this is a giant robot story so we need monsters that can not be defeated by anything other than a giant robot (since otherwise we would have no story). If the Angels had not AT Field then they would be invulnerable to conventional weaponry anyway. Their hides would be too hard, they would have quick healing... The writers would use any other excuse or justification (for example, Mazinger-Z got nuked in one episode, but it was not destroyed. Why? Because it was built with an extremely tough alloy. Here you go. Justified).

Again, I do not care for Pacific Rim. I have watched dozens of better stories featuring giant robots (by the way, Hideaki Anno -and other several notable creators of giant robo manga/anime such like Go nagai- thought that del Toro did a damn good job on the film). But if we are going to criticize the film, then our criticism should be fair.

Regarding your fic. It is not bad, but I think that it needs more detail. This chapter felt like a long summary. I think that your story will improve if you flesh the scenes out.

I would like to point out that your scathing review, belief that only Eva inspired Pac-Rim when Del Toro hadn't even seen the damn show until late into production (I'd probably point things like the fucking Pilder On at the start of the movie as signs that he was doing a more general approach), disliking of a silly setting after saying Gurren fucking Lagann was awesome of all things (double standards?), and casual throwing of "they could nuke the things" on creatures STILL IN OUT ATMOSPHERE make me veeeery weary of this fic or anything else out of you having any basis in reality.

A good effort but I found the scenes and writing to be very 2-D. What I mean is the WaFF and the way the charcters straight forwardly announce their lines and feelings, is kind of hard to get into. Thanks for posting the story, but I think your writing style could use improving.
