I literally just discovered this story today and OMG. I could not stop reading this. So so so freaking AMAZING. I was a little hesitant in the beginning, thinking it might be too out of character. But honestly, you've nailed them perfectly.

Donna leaving Harvey during their first marriage, putting his needs before hers (or so she thought). Him not fighting her decision, or for her, scared what it could possibly do to them and respecting her wishes...
In the three years following, everyone thinking Harvey lived his best bachelor life, when in fact, he was still very much not over loosing his wife and family, holding onto their home and not feeling comfortable bringing another woman there. And Harvey letting everyone believe he was back to his bachelor ways and not caring one bit... Classic Harvey; burying his true feelings under a facade just to keep everyone at a distance, rather than being vulnerable.
Them naturally gravitating towards each other after Donna returns, not being able to let the other be. Their daughter being the perfect mix of them, and being the most important reason why. I don't think Harvey really had to step up as a father though. His a loyal man first and foremost. Family comes first.

I think Donna tried really hard to see him as this emotional unavailable, distant and untrustworthy man, making her reasons for keeping Cassie away from him legit. But I think once Harvey realised they were back for good, he held onto his family which ever way he could. Even if it meant allowing Donna to waltz in and out of his apartment whenever she pleased, whichever way she pleased. Anything to make sure he had his two most favourite girls in his live. Regardless what it did to him.

I think this story is the perfect, most believable version of how the show could've played out if they had gotten together since 'the other time'. Reading this now in 2019, right after the season finale, feels strangely satisfying. I applaud you for this.

I just read this all the way through and I'm commenting on this chapter because his speech made me tear up, in the way that I didn't even realize I was reading and crying until I was already there. I really enjoyed this.
