Dean is so much the big brother that he doesn't see how much of his real self shows when he comforts Sam. The tough hustler is just a veneer.

Can't think of what had happened for Sam to be in the hospital - this is before the Cage. But I like the introspection of Dean. :-)

Oh, wow! That was so great. Dean's inner thoughts mixed with him watching over and checking on his brother.

A few favorite lines:

She glanced him over as she worked. "You should get some sleep."
He was perched on the edge of the chair exactly because he knew if he leaned back, he'd conk out. "I will when he tells me to shut up."

Love that. Perfectly Dean thing to say. Could totally hear him. And you back up the perfect 'Dean' dialogue with perfect 'Dean' action...sitting on the edge of the chair refusing to 'conk out.' So fun when a story takes you there...like an episode.

And this: He ran his nail up the insole, mouth quirking as Sam's dirty toes curled in. The nail on the middle one was black—how the heck did you injure your middle toe and not the surrounding ones, anyway?—

Beautiful little detail that adds such emotion...Sam's dirty toes curling. The quirk of his mouth. Dean giving the big toe a squeeze for comfort. So sweet!

So true. Love how you flawlessly show Dean working through all that they've been and he comes up with this. Their destiny. There was no way he could stop it.

I adore how smooth this is and how it's not over wordy, yet packs a wallop.

I loved Dean's introspection here as he reviews their lives so far, analyzing their actions and whether he could have done anything differently, only to realize that they would all lead back to where they are now. So poignant and heartbreaking.

I liked how you didn't explain why Sam was there, the focus purely on their relationship, their unspoken connection and body language. Just beautiful.

I like how you added the part about the clock stopping the night Jessica was killed, since we only know it happened from deleted scenes.
I love the final scene after Sam wakes up and Dean understands everything his brother says even though it is all done with his eyes.

I really liked this. I love how it was Dean's point of view and he was going through all the different big events. It's sad that there really wasn't any other way for them to have ended up with hunting in their lives and I really like how Dean saw that. I loved how Dean wasn't able to rest until Sam had regained consciousness if even just for a minute. And I loved the end when Dean put his hand for Sam to hold onto. Great job!

Nice throwback to earlier seasons. Hoping we get to see a bit of this side of the boys in season 10. (The brotherly side, not the lying in a hospital bed side!)
