It's about time someone started writing something like this.
I think that some Penny/Cody would be adorable, and Bernard/Bianca is, as you say, lovable. The McLeach/Medusa will be rather interesting.
Beyond your choice in pairings, I think the premise of the story is intriguing and I would definitely like to see where this is going.
