Aw that was a great story. I especially liked the way you showed the beginnings of why Spock and Kirk make such a great pair of friends and with Bones thrown in the mixture...nice job articulating all of that!

Y'know, this is kind of the story of McCoy's life. Jim does something rash and impulsive. McCoy tries to stop him. Jim does it anyway, and McCoy follows him into the mess without ever looking back. Rinse and repeat. If you can't stop your best friend from doing something stupid, you can at least make sure he doesn't do it alone, right?

I know this was probably supposed to be more of a Spock story, but I just really enjoyed McCoy doing exactly the same thing he'll do later on the Enterprise, only in a different context. Everybody needs a Bones - somebody who'll follow you even when you make a wrong turn, so that you won't be alone when you realize you made a mistake.

To use a Spockian term, fascinating. In one short piece you've captured the characters and given them life beyond the canon.

I actually found the audiofic for this after listening to Brothers in Arms and I absolutely loved them both! I am waiting for more chapters to be released on YouTube instead of reading them just because they are so well done! Please keep up the wonderful work! I am hella excited about this idea!

So when did Spock walk out? And why then? Good story so far.

Awwww man and here I thought you hand decided to post a second chapter. :( oh well congrats on finishing your audio version. I'll still hold out hope for a 2nd chapter or a sequel. I'd love to see spock throw that line back in Jim's face at the trial. :)

Love it! It's awesome how you had Spock get that line from Kirk. Perhas you can do another chapter? Where/why Spock left, maybe their thoughts during the trial ("that voice sounds familiar..." and such), possibly them figuring out who they were talking to?
My friend and I did that once. We went to different schools in 5th grade, but she came to mine for an orchastra practice and we were in the elevator together. She asked me if we were allowed to use it and I told her yes, as long as we don't get fingerprints on the walls. The next year we were in the same class and hit it off. Months after meeting for the second time, the subject turned to that concert and we were both like, "wait, that was you?!" Jim and Spock could do that if the subject turned to the Kelvin. Maybe Jim could mention how he talked to some stranger about it after a teacher ran him out of the room and thought he was going mad because the instructed just disappeared.
All just suggestions. Hope you consider building off of this!

I think you should do a follow up to this story. I saw that other reviewer's comment about spock throwing the whole "a captain can't cheat death" thing back in Jim's face. That would be a really good basis for a follow up story!

and two and a half years later that phrase "a captain can not cheat death" is thrown back at him and in that moment Jim realizes who it was on the other side of that bathroom stall door that day.

I loved this! I always wanted to tweak the timeline and have Spock and Jim meet before the movie time line and you did it so wonderfully! It's awesome to think that Spock was there for Jim when he needed someone. And I totally loved Bones defy the instructor, risking failing to come find a great story of friendship!
