FateDebated chapter 1 . 7/21
So here goes another ride along the Lokane rollercoaster!

To be honest, I was very hesitant to read this, as I was really REALLY afraid to meet Loki of this story, somewhat convinced that he was most definitely headed down the redemption path, while losing all his charm in the process. In hindsight, however, I guess I should have had more faith in your proficiency as a writer! Not only is Loki still somewhat menacing, but he also grows into his prankster self, which I found oh so enjoyable (shapeshifting into a busty female version of himself – bloody brilliant!). I was thrilled to see him vicious and vengeful again, capturing Jane and trying to use her as bargaining chip/hostage, almost as much as I loved the fact that she was genuinely afraid to that end – good to have Loki’s expected redemption rebuked at the outset of the story. Ergo – more gray Loki ahead! Jolly! And honestly – who can blame him? With this time-warp thing I can’t even begin to grasp the level of frustration he’s reached – imagine doing a noble, selfless thing for once, for the hope of gaining affection of a woman (which Thor does not fail to notice, quite interestingly), while getting nothing but punishment and scorn in return. The whole experience might have shaped a morally superior character into a better being, but not Loki. For Loki this was just a confirmation of never getting a break, no matter what.

That being said, I was mesmerized by how steadily and surely Loki grew into leadership. How he slowly transformed into the true leader that he was indeed destined to be, garnering grudging respect even from the Midgardians that he intended to rule. It was very rewarding to have his abilities confirmed this way, especially given his misguided attempt to prove the very same by ill means, in detail described in the prequel. I thoroughly enjoyed that, despite actually turning out to be the hero of the day (along with Jane, but more on that later), he nevertheless did not gather immediate and complete absolution. I am always somewhat befuddled by the redemption storyarcs where a good ol’ villain suddenly becomes as pure as December snow with the first honorable act he or she commits. It takes more than that, obviously, and you are as acutely aware of that as I am. Some penance has to be made – I find being plagued with nightmares while not being able to sleep with the woman you love, even after suffering through the horrible tortures of the Jotun serpent, poetic justice. It’s not enough, given his past crimes, but it shall have to do.

I continue to like your Thor. Even though I am as far from shipping him with Jane as I am from Alpha Centauri, you kinda make their pairing understandable for me. Your Thor is perceptive – he confirmed Loki’s love for Jane without reservations. He’s also aware of the responsibility placed on his shoulders as a heir to Asgard – to the point where he eventually sacrifices his happiness for the sake of it, while refusing to become petty, jealous and vengeful. He wishes his brother all the best with the woman he himself loves, but is unable to make happy. That is an admirable act that a lesser man, even Loki himself, would not have been able to pull.

Jane reaches the peak of her potential. I must say, had I not read the WUS and enjoyed it immensely, I would have struggled with accepting her as the true hero of this story, attributing much of her might to the Aether. But knowing the steel-spined Jane and what she suffered in the prequel, I feel rather opposite. I think the Aether simply added a deeper dimension to her ever-present power. What is also rather rewarding is that she finally learns how to hold sway of her power over Loki – the cave confrontation scene is absolutely marvelous to that end. She finally comes to terms with his affection for her and calls him out on it. Incidentally, Loki takes that declaration in a rather strange way – he becomes waaay to cheeky with Jane after that, somehow becoming convinced she’s gonna let him "get some" after this. I don’t really see why that happens, but I guess one can not hope to receive correct emotional responses from the God of Mischief all the time, eh? Either way, your Jane absolutely deserves to be the main drive behind that epic confrontation scene with Thanos and all the X-men – she’s a natural at that.

I love the overall feel of this story – it has the vibe of Infinity War (which I enjoyed much more then Endgame, tbh). I like your Thanos too, you manage to project that parental image of him that was reminiscent of his movie version. I even enjoyed the smut – as much as I usually don’t. I admit I was reading the relevant lines through my fingers, as I somehow felt I was intruding on Jane and Loki’s privacy. Felt odd, but pleasantly ticklish.

Overall, thank you for this amazing experience! I am grateful beyond measure that you did not leave this epic stranded somewhere midway.

Keep up the good work!

Much Love.

I began reading this just after finishing WUS (cant believe that was 6 years ago!) but decided to wait until it was complete. And man, what a ride. Brought back so many memories. A lovely-written fic. Please write more! (eagerly awaiting updates for the Arabian nights one). And honestly, thank you. You and your stories are a gift to humanity.
