So, I think this has SO much potential to be a good story, but... It just didn't seem realistic. Don't get me wrong, I loved the idea of the story. That much was realistic. But the way they talked and the way they reacted to things just didn't feel like them.

This is good! I suggest you keep writing! However, I do recommend one thing: break apart your text. You will get many more readers if you don't have a gigantic wall of text. But, you definitely have a way with words! I enjoyed this, and (assuming that this is the story you were referring to) am happy to have inspired you to write this, as it's a great idea!
