I thought Mary was perfect for the Holmes-Watson team. Between her intimate relationship with John and her understanding of their partnership, I was ecstatic. Then she shot Sherlock...and I hated her! I like how this gives her a little more likeability. I'm less inclined to hate her now.

Awwww, now that you have published it, I remembered that I have longed for a story which contains Mary taking care of Sherlock!;)
And it's not only a sick!fic, but also a precise and apt character study - of Mary, of Sherlock and of their relationship.

I totally love Sherlock and Mary's chemistry on screen and yes, they really like and respect each other. Therefore, I think Mary's conclusions in here are plausible and fitting. And touching at that!
It's also Mary all over that she didn't let herself be put off on the phone. And the way she takes care of Sherlock: stern, but also gentle. Very much resembling John in this regard. Yes, she really knows "how to handle him".

The two last lines triggered some HLV-feels... Time to rewatch the episode!;)

Yes, Mary has gotten a rather good understanding of Sherlock, and sadly, she is right: don't underestimate him! I love the quiet sense of foreboding you wove into this story, and the characterizations are as always spot on.
