Inspired by Keith Urban's awesome "'Til Summer Comes Around", but NOT a song-fic. What if Jim and Uhura knew each other already when they met in the bar? Jim used to be a rodeo rider at the county fair, where he meets the beautiful Uhura.

Nyota will never blindly follow a man, or respect one who does not earn it. It takes a while to see beneath Kirk's layers and to admire the man he is underneath, but they'll both get there in the end.

Picking up 8 months after the end of 'Brainwashed', Kirk and Uhura are in a very different place in their relationship. Set against the backdrop of a theft and several kidnappings, these two are tested in different ways, battling to find their way home. You don't need to have read 'Brainwashed' to follow this story, but some underlying themes might make more sense if you do.
