Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello authors! I think it's important, not only in fanfiction, but in all writing, to make sure the work is a final product when it's published. As a fervent lover of all fiction, I'd really love to read anything you want to send me, to polish it up before you decide to post it. I am well-versed in the worlds of the Harry Potter and Twilight series, as well as the cartoon network show Teen Titans, and as I spend so much of my free time reading fanfiction of these genres, I thought, what could make this better than if I could help edit them as well?

As your beta, I will fix any grammatical and/or mechanical errors you may have missed in your fervor of inspiration. I also want to help your prose itself, whether it be simply awkward wording or the believability of your dialogue. I really want to help you make your piece into what it was meant to be in your head. How many times have you read a story and thought, "Wow, the premise is amazing, but somethings just getting lost in the translation!" I think it's the role of betas to prevent that from happening. As a writer, I know that sometimes there's a block between the idea in your head and the words on the page. Because I critique writing as well as basic mechanics, I have been accused of being "a bit harsh" in the past, but it's only in effort to help you publish a piece that will really "wow" your readers.

So, try me out! I think we'll be a really great team. Happy writing!

Hannah

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
(or things to which I pay close attention)
Mechanics: grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure Style: Word choice, metaphor, rhetoric, tone, the description to dialogue ratio, dialogue, character development, ACCURACY of the characters (especially relevant to fanfiction), plot arc, fixing loose ends in a story, writing quality, believability.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be a little nit-picky about writing style, which comes off as harsh criticism of writing ability. I don't do it on purpose, really I just want every one to write whatever they want. However, sometimes I will tell someone that a sentence or paragraph is bad, when all I mean is that there is room for improvement, which is the case for all writing. I'm not trying to be insulting, I just want to help your writing be its very best.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I tend to enjoy stories from the Harry Potter, Twilight, and Teen Titans worlds, and I am a big sucker for a romance. Favorite pairings include: (for HP) Harry/Ginny, Fred/Hermione, Remus/Tonks, Remus/Lily, Sirius/Ginny, (for Twilight) Edward/Bella (duh), Jacob/Renesmee, Jasper/Alice, and (for Teen Titans) Robin/Raven, and occasional Beastboy/Raven. But I am open to everything! Straight, slash, canon, not canon, whatever! I have read almost every pairing there is, as well as every genre, so whatever you want! T-M ratings, only because I generally find the plots to be better.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Well... it sort of depends on the story. If you're confident in your plot, that it's quality and is going to make me THINK (even if it's about things I'd rather not thing about), then send it to me. It's on a case by case basis, and there are definitely subjects that I like less than others, but mostly I just want what you think is worth reading. Also, I said above I prefer T and M ratings. If you've got a K or a K+ that is going to knock my socks off, great! Let's see it!
