Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Beta services are limited mainly to grammar, style editing and proofreading. It's your story, and I'm a strong believer in the fact that if I want to put my own ideas down on paper, I will... in my own stories. I would only beta to improve the work, ie making it grammatically sound or improving readability/structure. Having said that, for a writer I respect and enjoy reading the works of, I am willing to bat ideas back and forth and help them with my impressions of what the story has gone/will go. But ultimately, I expect to be working with an already very good story to make it even better. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a degree in Linguistics (study of language as a whole, not of specific languages) with strong emphasis in syntax and stylistics, as well as modules in creative writing. My knowledge of grammar is strong, as is my ability to analyse the detail of what you are trying to say in order to see the bigger picture, thus help you to share exactly what you wish to share with your readers. I admit that my CW abilities are slightly lacking compared to my linguistic ones, but I'm not entirely at a loss when it comes to the creative side. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses are many. But I avoid them by limiting my services to grammar and restructuring of your own work, so if you are coming to me for said services - and nothing more - you will not be exposed to any weaknesses, nor will they impact upon my work with you. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Dynamics involving power plays, torture, submission, emotional/psychological turmoil, etc. However these things are only beautiful if they contain strong character development throughout. I like to see authors truly examining the themes of the worlds they are writing in, and examining the psychological states of the characters they are borrowing. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Gratuitous sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes. I will read sex if it has purpose to the development of the storyline, but otherwise I'm not interested. |
