Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I think everything is a brilliant idea so long as people approach it the right way. I love looking up obscure grammar, deciphering mutated and miserable sentences into something resembling English, and oxford commas. Gotta love those oxford commas. I also am interested in becoming a teacher and have been an avid reader/writer for years, so I'll be more than happy to offer constructive advice and such. I'll even quarantine myself in my bedroom to read your story aloud to myself just to make sure I haven't missed any spelling errors. Yes, I'm just that "dedicated"! :D That is my trustworthy face. My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I make a habit of looking at something and saying, "Y'know... this would be better if _." I don't have any of those "triggers" or anything, so I can stomach just about anything you can throw at me. I purposely seek out stories about cannibalism, so... yeah. Besides that, I'm good at catching spelling and grammar errors, characterization issues, tired old fanfiction clichés, iffy dialogue, and on top of it all: I'm willing to consume almost anything. Almost being the operative word. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
When I say I'm good at realizing ways to make things "better," what I mean is that I find a lot of things to complain about. It would be feasible that at times this would get very tedious for you, should you employ my services. On top of that, I'm never quite sure what to do with action scenes, and I'm not willing to delve into a franchise I'm unfamiliar with to properly beta, say, a crossover. I have a neat little comfort zone, as far as franchises are concerned, and leaving it makes my ears sweat. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I like "what-ifs," some AUs, and anything that takes an exciting new look on a series. Crossovers, I've concluded, would be best for this. As far as themes go, I like cults, psychological manipulation/abuse, gore, sass, m/m, and equilateral triangles. Evil equilateral triangles. O' course, I'm open to anything. How d'you know it's good if you never read it, right? |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
High school AUs, feminine m/m, whatever smut you've cocked up, love-triangles and glorification of children. Mostly these are just pet peeves, and I can be persuaded otherwise, but at this point I'm just sick of seeing them. I am a BIG believer that anything can be good with enough effort, however most of these just turn out the same. My only major no-nos are SJW-rants imbued in the characters dialogue and character bashing in general. Funnily enough, those two seem to go hand-in-hand. I'll still read your story, but I will strongly recommend toning both of them down. |
