I've been an avid reader/writer my entire life, and recently completed a creative writing minor at my university. As a result, I have experience with a wide variety of story types, and know how to properly critique almost any kind of writing sample. Send your story to me if you want honest criticism; I’ll tell you what you’re doing well, what you can improve on, and what you need to stop doing immediately. Keep in mind that, if you choose me as your beta-reader, I will approach your story as I would approach a story in a creative writing workshop: I'm taking it seriously. I'm not going to be overly nice or overly mean, but I'm going to treat your story like a legitimate short-story/chapter. I don’t hold back when I critique. I’m quite nice in general, though, so don’t worry! :)

(1) I'm very thorough when I edit/proofread a writing sample. (2) I'm good at spotting grammatical errors or any kind of punctuation problems that could be repaired; I'm rather good at spelling things/have a wide vocabulary, so I can even help you with words/word choice if that's an issue. (3) I'm also decent at moving pieces of a story around to improve flow. (4) If you have concerns about the way something is phrased or the way an idea is being expressed, I'm really good at brainstorming ideas.

(1) I’m not a professional. (2) I have four years of experience in critiquing/proofreading/editing others’ stories, but that by no means guarantees that I’ll spot all of the issues in your writing. (3) I might even spot things that bother me but wouldn't bother anyone else. That's the nature of a critique; I'm only one person, with one set of preferences. I can only go by what I know and what I think is "good." (4) You might disagree with some of the changes I suggest. That‘s fine. It‘s your story; you get the final say. I‘m just making general recommendations. (5) I also take a rather long time to read and edit stories; depending on length, one to two days. If you want someone speedier, I completely understand.

I prefer to write stories with well-developed characters and realistic plotlines. If you think your story fits this description, you should send it to me. (*) I know the characters/canon plots of these fandoms extremely well: (1) Harry Potter (movies and books); (2) Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon); (3) Lord of the Rings (movies and books); (4) Princess Tutu (anime). (*) Keep in mind that even a oneshot -can- follow a plot. If your oneshot follows a plot, I'll read it. If it's two people hooking up out of the blue, I will not. Similarly, if it's some characters randomly chatting about crap and I have no idea what the context is, I don't want to read it. Basically, I want to read a story. I hate reading random, plotless scenes without context. (***) Basically I would like to beta stories written by those who are truly trying to better themselves as writers. I don't want to waste my time, and I'd like to beta the stories of people with a similar outlook.

(***) No out of context sex scenes. Ever. (*) Extreme violence creeps me out. Mild/moderate violence isn't as creepy. But as always, in context. (*) I enjoy crack pairings sometimes, but if it's REALLY crack-y, send with caution. (***) If you're an A:TLA writer, I'm not a fan of Zutara. So. Just beware. (*) I don't prefer slash, but I don't really have a problem with it if it's in the context of a well-developed story and not just a random hookup. Just keep in mind that if you want to send me a slash story, I might not be the best editor for you.
