Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! I'm Convention of Distraction, and I've been on since the summer of 2014. I'm fairly new compared to some other users, but I enjoy writing and reviewing stories. I wouldn't consider myself a "harsh" beta-reader, but I can be very honest and forward about your writing. I'll look at your spelling, choice of words, and overall plot/dialogue. Generally I would recommend submitting one small chapter at a time, instead of giving me the mother-of-all-fan-fictions (AKA more than 5k words a chapter). There are two ways that I can review your story: 1) I read your story and then send you an email back with constructive criticism and citing the parts I'd fix; 2) I take your document, rewrite and bold the parts that needed fixing, and then submit back to you for final say as the writer. Make sure to tell me which way you'd prefer when contacting me (although I'd honestly prefer the first option). I expect anyone that wishes to acquire my services to write me an email telling me about yourself as a writer and what you are expecting from the beta-reading. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can tie a mystery together. The story doesn't even need to be finished for me to find a good ending (although I generally like it when writers think ahead instead of spewing words onto a screen and saying, "Done!"). If I know the fandom you're writing about, even better. I can check to make sure that the characters you are writing about actually *act* like the characters you are writing about. I'm bilingual but my main language is English. My category strengths are: Friendship, Mystery, Adventure, Sci-Fi. Sometimes Romance if it's not Fluff and over-the-top. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Pacing is an issue for me. I often find myself just waiting to get to the meat of the plot, and that just leaves all the little details sort of just dangling there... I also can't write uber romantic scenes. It's just not for everyone, I guess. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer stories in a fandom I actually know. Either tv shows or books. Email me if you think I'll accept your fanfic, or check my profile for more details. I'm a pretty avid reader (classics, sci-fi, fantasy, realistic fiction), and I watch a lot of different tv shows. Anything with a plot, really (and I generally like drama/mysteries). |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
No manga/anime/etc! I cannot stress this enough. I just find the story lines too confusing, and I can't for the life of me sit through an episode of anime. I also don't do anything rated higher than T, unless it's just for swearing and violence. NO smut, incest, rape, slash, heavy drug use, torture, or fluff. |
