I read. A LOT. I have fairly high standards of quality, and will hold any stories I beta-read at least to the same standard as a good comic book, if not actual novels. I expect stories sent in to me for beta-reading to be in, well, *beta* stage, instead of the alpha or pre-alpha quality I often see posted on FF.N.

I am relentless and obsessive in finding errors in grammar, spelling, and syntax. I can pick out a sentence fragment from a mile away. If it sounds awkward when reading it, I will notice it.

I'm not quite as good at judging things like characterization. Also, I tend to be a bit overzealous when editing, to the point where a story might end up looking more like my writing than yours after I'm through editing it. I also have a weak spot for HOLY S#@T THIS IS AWESOME moments--a good explosion can cover up any plot hole in my eyes.

I guess I generally prefer action-adventure stories, but I'll take anything that captures the essence of the source material, as long as there's something HAPPENING in it. I don't want to read about Spidey agonizing about how much his life sucks if there isn't some world-saving going on in the background.

In general, I don't like purely romantic stories. This may be a side effect of being male. In fact, purely character-based stories without much action happening at all kind of turn me off in general, though I make exceptions if they're *really, really good*. Also, avoid sending in the type of story where everyone's in high school instead of kicking @$& in ancient Japan. I've been through high school, and I loathed it. Please don't remind me of it.
