Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hey everyone my name is Krisavengergurl! I'm an enthusiastic reader and writer who also just happens to love to help others with their writing as well, so I thought I'd become a Beta reader. As a Beta reader I am very detailed and I usually look for things that you have missed, repeated, if you accidentally change POV, misspelled, or accidentally put in. That being said, I also look at the overall plotline/story and see if everything matches up the way it should, as I think that's a very important part of Beta reading. Along with that I also check your characters themselves. This applies to both OC's and normal characters. For OC's, I make sure that they have their own voice and that they are unique and relatable. People usually look for that in OC's, and I will try as best I can to deliver with that! For the rest of the characters, I'll try to make them match up to the real characters in the movies/comics/shows that I possibly can. In other words, I'll make sure that they aren't OOC. As for my style, it's not too laid back but it isn't too strict either. I try and keep your voice throughout the story while only adding a few words or sentences of things that I think should be in there. I really don't want to change anyone's writing majorly, I just want to change it enough so that it will make sense and that everyone will love it! Lastly, for my expectations, I expect that you treat me the way I treat you. I do look over the fine lines of things so that means sometimes there may be a lot of corrections or things I've added into your story. I'm just trying to help you, I swear! So please don't get mad at me for trying to help you! But by all means, if you think I've done something wrong, let me know and I'll take a second look at it! I also expect that you will have at least tried to make the writing as perfect as you possibly can before sending it to me. I don't mind fixing mistakes that you've made, that's my job, I just don't want to go in and entirely rewrite your story if you know what I mean! And very last, I would hope that you would give me a little bit of credit for proofreading your story at some point in time. It doesn't have to be anything big, just a little author's note at the beginning or the end of the story, letting everyone know that I proofread. But if you do like my proofreading, and you thought I did a good job, feel free to boast a little bit! :) I think that's just about it for me! My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
In writing I excel at details, OC's, overall plotline, and voice. I always try to add as much detail as possible in my stories because it gives the reader a better reading experience. Adding the little things into your story may have a big difference in the reader's mind, so I think it's very important to add those little things. And because of that, at times, I am a little picky, but just remember, I'm helping you, not hurting you! One of my strongest points overall I believe personally is OC's, or Original Characters. I am good at adding an OC's own personality and voice into the story, unlike some writers. I believe an OC needs to be themselves and not just fade into the back round. They need to be bright and vibrant and stand out from the rest! I'm very good at making this happen in my own opinion. As for overall plotline, I can usually make a very good one! A good plotline has many conflicts that all the characters face, some that might even affect them in the long run. That being said, a good plotline also ends at just the right time and doesn't drag on and on for long periods of time. I excel at finding just the right middle in both of these areas. Lastly, I do have a very unique voice. I use more refined words most of the time, unless the character is unrefined or that isn't their style. I try to keep all of my words clean an PG for the most part, but at the same time, I write what the character would say. It is a very fine line, but I think I get the job done right! I can incorporate all of these aspects into your writing if you just let me know! Another good thing about my proofreading is that, most of the time, it will only take me about a day to proofread a chapter, and depending on the length, two to four days to proofread longer selections, mainly because I read quickly. My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses include commas, rambling, and lack or excess of dialogue. I usually use many commas in my writing, mainly because I do like to ramble at times. I want to fit all the words I want into one sentence, and because of that, sometimes commas are overused. When I realize I'm doing this though, I will stop, go back, and reread your story. I'll make sure to break up sentences and make sure your readers aren't overwhelmed with long tedious sentences. As for the rambling, it's more of just over excessive details. Like I said earlier, I do use a lot of details, and at times, I will go on and on and on. But I promise I'll try my very best not to do that! If you ever catch me doing that just let me know and I'll gladly re Beta the parts I messed up on! So to kind of go on with the theme of rambling, at times I ramble in dialogue. Sometimes that's appropriate. For example if the character rambles I'll make sure that I do to match their personality, and vice versa. Then again at times, sometimes I use too little dialogue, and for long stretches of time there won't be any 'spoken' words. Once again, if you catch me doing this, let me know and I will reread it for you! But just like always, I'll try and give it my best the first time! And remember, everyone makes mistakes, even Beta readers. So please don't get mad at me if I miss anything! I promise I'll try my very hardest to make your story the absolute best it can be! |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer stories in the Marvel world, such as the Avengers, Agents of SHIELD, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, Captain America:The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor, Thor the Dark World, and X Men First Class. I also enjoy the Walking Dead, the X Files, and Criminal Minds. Those also happen to be the fandoms I'm most familiar with. Like I said earlier, I do specialize in OC stories, but that does not mean that your story has to have an OC in it in order for me to proofread for you! It just means that I excel in writing with OC's. I love ships, and I'll go with almost any of them! I don't really have a preference on that. As for genres, I'm not too picky in that area either. I usually write in hurt/comfort, or adventure, so I'm most familiar in writing with those categories. But I absolutely love to both read and write in almost all categories! So I'm pretty open with that as well. I am a reading activist so send those stories right on in! And if you have a fanfiction that you really want me to read and it doesn't have any of those categories in common with it, I would still like to read your stoy! So even if your not entirely sure, just send it over and I'd be more than happy to read it! |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
There aren't very many stories that I wouldn't like to proofread! I love reading in general and helping someone else always makes me happy! However, I would prefer that if you send me you story there are not excessive amounts of swearing. I don't mind some swearing, if that's how you right then that's how you write, but if it is frequent and constant I would rather that you take some of the words out before sending it to me or just passing it to another Beta reader. I would also prefer that there are no slams on religion. I proudly admit that I am a religious person and I don't like to hear people beating up on what I believe. So please respect that boundary! Finally, I would rather not read any homosexual stories. Once again, if that floats your boat and that's how you enjoy to write, go ahead. Just please respect my boundaries as I respect yours. I am not trying to be offensive in any way, shape, or form, it's just how I feel. Thank you so much for understanding! |
