I have been reading fan fiction works for over 6 years, and i have had a great share of greatly written fanfiction with bad stories, and badly written fanfiction with good stories. As a betareader, my goal is to make sure that the excellent stories truly reflect the story the way it should be portrayed. With my beta reading style, I am looking for a story that is vibrant and smooth flowing, but is not overwhelming. I understand that alot of people spend large amounts of time working on their fanfiction and are thus very sensitive when it comes to criticism of their works. It is with this in mind that I make sure to preserve the style and messages of a person's story while making sure that it is enjoyable to a general audience.

I do not really care whether your story itself is really cannon ["to-the-book"] but i do like to have facts and explanations as accurate as possible. Thus if there is a situation in which someone is expected to explain a factual event or idea (philosophy, history, science) I expect some sort of research to be conducted.

My other expectation is that you keep the entirety of the story in one tense. Consistency, is something that I expect on general, because once we get past the "rinky dink" aspects of grammar, we can spend more time enriching the story.

Speed is my primary strength, I can read extremely fast as well as type so proofreading is very quick.
My second strength is making the tone of a story consistent in a variety of tones, be it formal, casual, and so on...
My third strength is adding power to the language and style of the writer; assuring that the work written is strong, vivid, and get the author's intent through as clearly or as inconspicuously as they want.

My primary weakness is writers block. I get great bursts of creativity followed by significantly long periods of inactivity because I cannot think of anything to write.

After this weakness, I have problems with time management in general. I will put my fanfiction and writing before school and work and end up with a ponderous imbalance between the things I must do and the obligations I have made on the side.

I dont really have any preferences. I am a Harry Potter fanfiction writer myself, but I can successfully make a story of higher quality regardless of familiarity with the story it is based off of.

Anything completely retarded. if you are serious but just cant seem to make a quality story, i am more than willing to read. But if you are making a crappy story for "lolz" and you dont really care, do not even bother asking me to BETA for you.
