Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Sometimes, when I save fanfictions to my iPod, I can't help but correct even the smallest of mistakes. In fact, in real life, I'm known as the person who always yells out "IT'S (name) AND I, NOT ME AND (name)!". I'm pretty famous for it... Once, I even started having a grammar rant at one of my best friends in a History lesson; I just can't help myself!Also, every time we have to mark our peers' work in English, I always end up correcting every little spelling and grammar mistake, so I tend to run out of time when it comes to writing targets... I might as well put this to good use. So, here I am! I like to know the personalities of the characters, so the categories I have chosen will reflect that. However, I will be able to beta read any story for just spelling and grammar if you are confident with the personalities. |

Grammar, definitely. I also consider myself to be pretty good at spelling, but I'll still use a spellchecker just in case I miss something. I generally correct works as thoroughly as possible. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Well, if I enjoy the story too much, I can end up getting so into it that I look over a couple of errors. That doesn't happen all the time, but if it didn't, it doesn't necessarily mean the story's bad :).My greatest weakness is probably sentence structure. I find it confusing to get the right balance of simple, compound and complex sentences, and to vary the amount of clauses per sentence. If there are lots of characters involved, I find it hard to keep track of them. But if there are only a few people being focused on and the others are just in the background, maybe having an occasional interaction with the protagonists, I'm fine :) |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I can handle gore and depressing stuff. In writing, anyway.With Homestuck, I don't know much about the personalities of any Post-Scratch kids or Pre-Scratch trolls (I.e. the ones that come later) I'm fine with yaoi and yuri, and I'll beta read even if I don't fully support the pairing. Anything with England in will be even more readily accepted; I support/am okay with most pairings involving him :). AUs are generally cool with me as well. Fantasy AUs rock. In fact, I'd love to beta read anything with a supernatural/magical influence. Genderbends? I'm okay with those! If it's the plan to have characters slightly out of character, then so be it. Just alert me beforehand, so I know not to change their personalities back to normal. After all, not all situations are covered by the creators, and everyone has their little head canons :) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not really a fan of 2P!Hetalia...I don't particularly like characters to be totally out of character. Also, it just feels like it's going too far, y'know?Also, like I said in my weaknesses, if there are lots of characters in the spotlight at once, I lose track of them all. So, don't send me any which fully focus on many more than...I don't know, four or so? Argh, this is difficult to explain, but just keep the main events around a smallish group and I can handle it. |
