Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! I am The Youkai Nightmare, somebody who loves to read and write fanfiction. Now, saying that, reading fanfiction is a bit easier than writing your own fanfiction. Believe me, I know. :) And some people don't like looking over what they write to fix anything, or to better their story so that the readers will enjoy it more. For those that do, I am here to help!Having that being said...I admit I can be a bit critical. If I don't agree with the subject matter, that's one thing, I won't bug you on that because people write what they want. If the writing isn't done WELL, or it's not entirely believable, I'll point it out, and give suggestions. I won't tell you that you have to write it the way I say, because that's creative license for you! Also, I love to see developed characters. Now, I know it's hard if you've only written one chapter and you want me to read it, and there hasn't been much character development. I understand that. But if it continues, I will help you see if you can make the character deeper. :) Of course, this goes for OC's. Characters that are already created (fanfiction is fanfiction after all) already have personalities, and I generally like to keep them that way. I don't think that anybody who comes to a beta reader will be sensitive to corrections or suggestions, but if you are, please let me know so that I can do things in the nicest way possible! :) I'm not here to make you my enemies, or writing minions, or anything like that (although...writing minions could be kind of cool...). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good with seeing a character as 2-Dimensional (having stereotypical features) versus having a character as 3-Dimensional (not easy to read, has surprises, secrets, things that make him or her more human). Also, I'm pretty good at checking grammer. I love spelling (I'm a dork that way) so if I see something spelled wrong, or spelled right but used in the wrong place, I'll correct it straight-away!! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not sure if I should be one to help you develop a plot. I'll admit, a plot takes a lot of hard work, and that work is purely up to the author. If you have questions on whether or not something could work, chances are I'll give you two sides the the argument and let you decide. Also, when it comes to fight scenes...not my strong point. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love reading stories that have a little bit of romance, and a lot of adventure. Adventure is always fun to read. I will take stories with a lot of romance, but other things have to go on besides that (like...adventure! Or action! Or drama! Or something...). |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Stories that I would prefer NOT to beta are stories that are just pure romance, yaoi or yuri (I don't have anything against it, but I've never written or read them, and I figure that in a way they would be more complicated than heterosexual content. With that, I don't like to beta stories with a lot of sex or stories that are written purely to entertain the reader in that way. I like passion...I LOVE passion, passion makes the world go 'round! However...in a story...too much can ruin it for me. |
