Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Grammar is my strength. I am also good at style, but sometimes I give options to change wording simply because it is how I write. It does not always mean that it needs to be changed, and I will try to always say that when applicable. I am sometimes slow to edit, depending on my workload in the real world. I love the fanfiction world, but, let's face it; that one exists too. So, even though I am not on all the time, I check my emails pretty much everyday. How soon I get to stories will also depend on how long they are. Sometimes I print stories and edit the hard copies before sending the corrections back, and sometimes I go straight from the computer. If ever you need help and I am unavailable at the time, I will be sure to let you know. If you are interested in having me beta, I ask that you take into consideration my dislikes (stated below). Also, please be patient. If you cannot wait, I understand if you prefer to find another beta. However, if I cannot get to your story at the time, it does not at all mean I do not want to beta for you. Please be kind as well. :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a grammar nerd. I can catch most mistakes, be they punctuation, spelling, or misused words. I can help with writing style, like sentence structure and such. I can also help translate stories to English, and am pretty good at gauging what it is that is trying to be said. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can take a long time reading and editing a piece. Sorry! It really depends on the length of the piece and how much I have going on in my life at the time, though. Sometimes, I want to change how something is worded, not because it is wrong, but because I feel it would flow better. I will try to always say when a suggestion is not important, but I thought some might like to know. :) |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer fantasy as a genre, and I definitely prefer those stories with cannon characters (as long as they are not out of character and the canon is correct). I will beta original character stories. That is not a problem. This is just the 'preferred' box. ;) I like whumps, dramas, angsts, humors, family, etc. For the most part, that part of the genre does not matter to me! In particular, I am very familiar with the cannons of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Bonanza, Merlin, Doctor Who, and Supernatural (there are others, but I cannot think of them right now), but I will try almost anything. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't care for slashes, just a personal thing. Neither do I like sex scenes, nor rape. Romances, sure, but please leave it at that. Also, I do not prefer horror stories, stories in which the pairings from the cannon are switched (for example, please do not pair Merlin with Gwen, or Legolas with Arwen), or if characters are Mary Sues. Perfect characters irk me. |
