Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Screenplay writer for over 10 years. Have been improving with each new project I take up on. Also, the more I read other screenplays/playwrights, the better I get (or so I like to believe). Reading and writing are some of the biggest aspects to developing as a writer and a reader.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I like to think I can make some really awesome stand out characters if I know they're going to last a whole story. Also, I like to really draw out suspenseful moments. And any time I can inject humor in there, I splice it in. As a reader and as a person who critiques, I weave out what makes the story strong and what makes it weak. Where it's failing, where it's keeping my interest, what characters are the most fun to read, if it seems rushed, etc.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Long paragraphs. I instantly start to zone off when reading them and want to either skip to the next paragraph or stop reading all together. It has to be written REALLY well for me to want to read anything that looks like it's one paragraph taking up a whole page. Grammatical errors I don't mind too much as long as it's not overboard; it's the story that really matters the most to me. If it's good, it'll keep my interest no matter how it's written. As a writer, my main weakness is keeping out the unnecessary. I tend to like developing characters a lot so they may talk too much and it might not have too much with the story but they're personal little moments are the things I enjoy. So it might get off track a little and it may even get wordy but sticking to the basics is definitely where I need to improve.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Anything in screenplay/playwrite format will draw my interests, to start off but horror is one of my favorite fields to read. So anything scary would work for me to keep interested. There's also only a few TV shows that I'm really interested in: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother. Love those but I just have to know specifically what time frame the fanfic takes place in.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Stuff in novel format isn't my cup of tea. As said in preferred, I enjoy screenplay format. I like to read stuff that's more simple that doesn't pertain to any time period or something that I'd have to be a huge fan of to understand its environments/obscure characters & story lines or quite simply things in the real world I'm just not all that into. So anything like Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, The Matrix, Fast & Furious, The Mummy, Star Trek & the like, as much as I LOVE all those franchises, I wouldn't like to read. However, drop me a line and I'll specifically let you know if you have any questions. It'd have to be REALLY good & understandable for me to want to read those.
